Michael lightly smiled as he watched Luke play with the dog in the backyard.
He was so pretty, and so happy. Nothing could take the smile away from him.
Michael wasn't in the mood to play with Luke and the dog today. Usually he would, but today he woke up with venomous thoughts swimming around in his mind. He was just sad, and he didn't know why.
It was just one of his bad days.
He didn't want to tell Luke and worry him. He knows that will just scare the younger boy. He wants Luke to stay happy.
"Mikey? What's wrong?" Luke asked anyway, noticing Michael's change in behavior.
Michael just shook his head, not trusting his voice to speak a lie to Luke, and tell him everything is okay.
"Did I do something?" Luke asked softly, his tone, and facial features dropping.
"No, of course not." Michael said, and stood up. He quickly hugged Luke, and kissed the younger boys head.
Luke watched with a slight frown as Michael walked back into the house.
He called the dog, and followed his boyfriend in the house.
"Do you need me to go get you anything?" Luke asked, fiddling with his fingers, unsure on how to act towards the new depressed, dull Michael. Usually Michael was so bubbly, and energetic.
"No, it's okay, Luke." Michael whispered, so Luke nodded, and walked upstairs.
"It's a little early, but I think I'm gonna go to bed soon. Come get me if you need me. I love you, Michael." Luke said, and bit his lip.
"I love you too, Luke." Michael said, and Luke slowly walked up the stairs.
He felt like a failure. He wanted to be able to cheer Michael up, but he couldn't.
He walked into their room, and laid down on the bed, letting his tears soak into the pillow. Seeing Michael so upset really hurt him.
-
Michael hesitantly walked into the door.
He knows he needs Luke, but every time he got really depressed, he tried distancing himself so he wouldn't scare the younger boy.
"Mikey?" Luke asked, and sat up, turning on the lamp.
Once the light was on, it revealed both Luke and Michael's tears.
"Michael, please just tell me what's wrong. I hate seeing you so sad." Luke cried, and Michael wiped his own eyes, and walked over to Luke. He kneeled down beside the bed, and wiped Luke's eyes.
"Tell me why you're crying first." Michael said, and Luke looked down at him.
"I want to be able to make you happy, but I don't know how. Whenever you're sad, I'm sad." Luke whispered, and Michael's head dropped, more tears falling from his own eyes as he realized the effect he had on Luke.
"Baby, you're breaking my heart..." Michael laughed, "...don't cry."
"I just want you to be happy." He said, and Michael sighed.
He took both of Luke's hands in his, and the younger boy looked down at their tangled fingers.
"Sometimes I get really sad. There's no reason, and there's really not much I can do. I've had depression ever since I was little. It's hard to deal with, but I promise, you are helping me more than you know. I'm never upset with you, and usually I avoid telling you when I have days like this just so I won't make you sad. You've gotta know that you make me happier than anyone ever could." Michael told him softly.
"Please don't hide it from me. I want to know. I want to know when you're having a bad day. It makes me feel like you can really trust me with that, and I want to be there for you." Luke whispered, so Michael stood up and hugged him.
He laid Luke's back on the bed, and laid with his head in Luke's neck.
"Nobody has ever said that." Michael whispered, making Luke smile. "I love you more than anything in the world, Luke Hemmings."
