"What the hell, Luke?! We can't afford something like this! You should've talked to me before you made this decision!" Michael said, and Luke shrugged.
"I don't know. It's just... I felt really bad to say no. What if she had been going around all day asking people, and nobody had said yes?" Luke said softly.
"Luke, she's a sales woman. It's her job. She's going to constantly get rejected and she knows that because people can't afford a cable company that costs $300 a month!" Michael said, and rubbed his forehead. "We had a perfectly fine cable plan, but now we're going to have to pay triple the amount we do now!"
"But, she was really happy when I said yes..." Luke whispered.
"You're so irresponsible! She's selling cable plans, not asking for a prom date!" Michael yelled, and Luke knew he should've talked to Michael, but he didn't.
"I'm not irresponsible!" Luke snapped, and Michael scoffed.
"A responsible person wouldn't get manipulated by a door to door salesman." Michael laughed, making Luke frown.
"Shut up!" Luke groaned. Michael was making him feel really stupid.
He turned his back to Michael and let tears fall out of his eyes. He didn't wanna let Michael see.
"We could barely buy our own son Christmas presents last year because of how tight money is, and now you go and do something like this?! You are the definition of irresponsible, Luke!"
"Stop it! He's crying!" They heard.
They both looked up and saw Mason running into the kitchen where they were arguing.
Luke knelt down, and Mason hugged Luke, holding Luke's head to his shoulder.
"Nobody makes Dad cry..." he said, glaring at Michael.
"Listen buddy, we-"
"It's okay, Mas. I deserve it. Michael is just angry because I did something I shouldn't have. Don't be mad at him." Luke whispered, kissing his sons forehead.
"Okay..." the little boy whispered.
"Now go upstairs and we will be up there in a second to tuck you in, okay?" Luke said, and mason nodded, running back to his room.
Luke stood up, and wiped his eyes. He turned to Michael.
"I'm sorry for being so stupid." Luke whispered, and Michael shook his head.
"Just leave me alone for a minute, please." Michael sighed, and Luke nodded.
"I'm gonna go talk to mason." Luke whispered before he left the room.
Luke softly knocked on the little boys door before walking in.
"Hi dad..." mason sniffled, wiping his eyes.
Luke walked over and sat down on the bed next to him.
"I don't like seeing you and dad fight." The little boy whispered, holding onto Luke's much bigger hand.
"I know. I never liked hearing my parents fight either. I know it's scary sometimes, but me and your dad fight because we love each other. You know that, right?" Luke whispered.
"No. Why would he make you cry if he loves you?" The little boy asked, laying on Luke's shoulder.
"He's just upset because he wants what is best for this family. When we argue, it's because we both think that what we're doing is going to help, but we disagree. We fight out of love, not out of anger. The reason I cry is just because I'm a little stressed out. It's not your dads fault. Michael is amazing, and he would never purposefully try to make me or you sad. He wants this to be a happy family." Luke said, and the little boy looked up.
"You guys are done fighting, right? I know you'll probably fight again sometime, but you're done tonight?" He asked, and Luke nodded, kissing his head.
The little boy crawled into his lap, and Luke held his son tight in his arms, letting him drift off to sleep.
Luke looked up when he saw the door open.
"Hey... is he asleep?" Michael asked and Luke nodded.
"That was fast..." Michael whispered, sitting on the bed beside Luke. "...you're so good with him."
"Sorry for calling you irresponsible. You are clearly not irresponsible." Michael said softly.
Luke laid his head down on Michael's shoulder.
"Lets go to bed, okay?" Michael asked, and Luke looked up.
"Can we stay in here with Mason? He needs it. He doesn't understand why we fight, but I just need him to know that we still love each other, and that we still love him." Luke whispered.
"Of course we can." Michael said softly, laying down. He held Mason on one side of him and let Luke cuddle into the other side.
"I love you both more than anything in the world."
