i typed this whole thing without capital letters, and i'm not about to go back and fix it, so if the lowercase bothers you, i'm sorry.

luke walked into the house, his expression unreadable. he dropped his jacket, and walked into the living room.

michael took off his glasses, and looked up from his work.

"hey, baby? how did the appointment with the surrogate go?" michael asked.

"dont call me that." luke growled, and michael stood up.

"luke, what happened?" michael asked.

michael watched as lukes face fell, his lip quivering as tears ran from his eyes.

"don't call me baby. don't ever-"

"luke, you need to tell me what's going on right now." michael said, and placed his hands on luke's shoulders, trying to understand.

"our baby-" luke cried, and choked on his sobs, unable to breath properly.

"is he doing okay? i don't understand, luke. did she get the ultrasound? could you see him?"

"we're not having a baby, michael. she lost him." luke cried, placing his hand on michael cheek.

"no no no no no- there's nothing they can do?" michael asked, tears pooling in his eyes.

"he's gone. she miscarried," luke cried, laying his head against michael's chest.

michael held onto the back of luke's head. he was completely heartbroken

they both were.

"no- he was supposed to come home in two months. he was gonna live here, and we were gonna hold him, and wake up in the middle of the night when he cried- luke, this can't be happening." michael cried.

"that was our only chance." luke whispered.

"no we can try again-"

"do you have another $17,000?!" luke asked, looking up at michael.

"you're right. we can't pay for it again." michael whispered, placing his forehead on luke's.

michael wiped luke's tears, and held him tight.

"we can put in an application for adoption. i know it's going to take a long time, and it's pricey, but it's gonna be okay. we're gonna have a family- luke, you are my family and i want to raise a child with you more than anything. we just need to keep trying." michael whispered.

luke nodded, and sniffled.

their hands locked together, and michael kissed luke's nose.

"i need to go call my mom." luke whispered.

"just wait." michael whispered, and pulled luke down onto the couch with him. "just lay here with me for a little bit."

luke snuggled into michael's chest, and even though the world he knew was falling apart, he felt safe. he felt at ease.

"we're gonna be okay. everything's going to be okay."
