Forty-Two

     "Has he said it yet?"
     "What?"
     "Has he said 'I love you' yet?"
     "Lily, not right now–"
     "Oh come on, (Y/N)!"
     "...Yes."
     "Really?" Lily gasped.
     "Yes," you replied tiredly.
     "Well? What'd you say back?"
     "I said–"
     "Please don't tell me you said 'I love you, too' 'cause that always bothered me. It sounds half-hearted."
     "Lily! Calm down and let me finish. I kind of stared at him for a while, I was unsure really what to say. I mean, you know that look he gives you?"
     "No."
     "Well, obviously. I just mean he stared at you like you're the only thing in the world. It's a bit disarming.
     "So I'm staring back at him and he's smirking like he knows the affect he has on me and I just sort of blurt out..."
     "What? What did you blurt out?"
     You groaned and put your face in your hands.
     "I said 'I know!'"
     "Oh... dear."
     You peeked through your fingers.
     "No, that was not supposed to be a pun," she sighed, exasperated.
     "And he just kind of stares at me and he just gives me this huge grin and says, 'this is why I'm dating you.'"
     "Oh, that's not too bad."
     "Then he kind of looks at me really seriously–don't laugh–for a second and asks me if I loved him. It kind of scared me because Sirius was never really... well, serious–Lily I can see you laughing–so I just sort of nodded. Then I was like, 'of course' and he's like, 'then say it.' So I just looked at him and said, 'Sirius Black, I love you.'"
     "Awww! That's so romantic!" Lily gushed.
     You blushed a deep shade of red and giggled. You never giggled.
     "So... what about you and James?"
     "Well..."
     "Please?"
