"Why do I have to go to this dinner anyways?" Zach groaned as he scrolled through the drawers, trying to find the perfect tie for his dress shirt. "Plus, I'm not sure what they're going to think of me after I got hit in the face with a puck."

"First of all," Y/N rolled her eyes as she strolled behind Zach and wrapped her arms around his waist, observing the reflection in the mirror. "My parents love you, Zach. You know it yourself, and they were pretty worried when you did fracture your orbital and sinus cavity."

"But, what if I accidentally-" Zach started to open his mouth, but Y/N immediately shushed him; not wanting to deal with an anxious Zach.

"Zach Werenski, you are not going to make a fool out of yourself at dinner, alright?" Y/N looked at him in the eyes, her E/C eyes looking into his green-hazel eyes. "I think the red tie goes well with the white shirt you have on. Now, hurry up or otherwise, my parents are going to think we're doing other things..."

"Zach reluctantly nodded his head as he searched for the red tie. He eventually found it and tie it by himself, before he grabbed his formal shoes and hopped out the door.

"Oh, there you are!" Y/N's mother sighed in relief as soon as she saw her and Zach enter the restaurant. "We were wondering if you were ever going to show up..."

"We're so sorry that we're late," Zach took his seat next to Y/N while shaking hands with her mom and dad. "I was debating whether I should've come here tonight..."

"Zach, you don't need to feel ashamed at all," Y/N's dad smiled gently at him and shook his head, "how are you feeling, by the way?"

"My face doesn't hurt much like it used to... But, I have to go to the doctor's every other week and get it checked out." Zach answered the question as he took a sip of water before setting the glass down on the table.

"Y/N, how was your first year at Ohio State?" Her mom asked while she drank from her glass of red wine, wanting to know she was doing away from her home.

"You know, I do get homesick at times," Y/N chuckled to herself as she skimmed through the menu, "but, Zach's always there for me when I need him and he's so kind and caring. It is definitely different from U of M."

When Zach found out he was going to play for the Blue Jackets and decided to leave Michigan, Y/N didn't want to deal with the stress of a long-distance relationship, so she took the option of transferring to Ohio State, which was not far from the Nationwide Arena.

"But, I'm still loyal to my Wolverines and you're not going to see me in any Buckeye gear anytime soon," Zach joked, which he earned laughter from the rest of the table, "I got to stay loyal to my home state."

"You're lucky I think it's cute that you're a loyal Wolverine," Y/N lowly chuckled as she leaned up and pressed a kiss on his left cheek. "I love you and your Michigan pride."

"I love you too," Zach smiled and kissed her back on the cheek before things got too heated and her parents were suspecting what was going on.
