"Wow, I can't escape you even when I'm trying to get a cup of coffee."

I looked up from my phone to see Shawn, and couldn't help but smile.

"Are you stalking me?" I asked with a smile.

"I was going to ask you the same thing," he said. "Mind if I sit?"

"Go for it."

And he did.

"So, Margot Kate. I actually took a look at your YouTube channel last night," he told me.

"I'm going to revisit the 'Are you stalking me?' question," I said, and he smiled.

"No, I am not. I just wanted to see if you were really the real deal," he replied with a shrug.

"And the consensus is...?" I asked, hoping he couldn't sense the hope in my voice. It's not everyday a famous singer watches you sing.

"I stand my by previous statement that I said the other day. You're amazing," he told me.

"Don't say amazing. I'm not amazing. You are. I'm just...fine," I said.

He smiled a little. "You're much more than fine. And I think we should sing together."

I almost spit out my coffee.

"Like a real song?" I asked in disbelief.

"No, a fake song, Margot," he said, and I rolled my eyes.

"What I mean is, why would you sing with me?" I asked.

"Because you're really good, and, not to brag or anything, but singing with me will definitely boost your publicity," he replied, sipping his coffee.

"But I've never sang, like, in real life. Only behind a camera," I told him.

"That was me at one time. You've gotta break out of your shell at some point, right?" he said, smiling. That smile could probably convince me to commit a crime.

"And you're sure you would actually want to sing with me? I'm not a charity case or anything, right?"

He smiled again and shook his head. "You're over analyzing this, Margot Kate. We're going to sing together, and it's going to be great. You're going to be great," he told me, and I felt butterflies in my stomach. Ugh, stop.

"Ok. I'm putting my trust in you, Shawn Mendes," I said with a small smile.

"Good choice. You can give me your number and I'll tell you when we can get in the studio," he replied, and I raised an eyebrow.

"Whatever you say," I said.

I gave him my number and he smiled again. "If I'm being honest, you're the first person I've genuinely liked here."
