@margotkatefrankin: "so when you hold me, am I the only one? do you wanna know me, or is this all for fun?"

"I can't believe you've never seen Ferris Bueller's Day Off. What kind of person has never seen such a movie?"

It was getting darker as we sat in Shawn's car, which was parked for the purpose of watching one of my personal favorite movies on a huge screen, the sinking sun in the background in front of an orangey pink sky.

My first movie at a drive-in theater, his first time seeing this particular movie, our first "real" date. A lot of firsts, I guess.

Shawn gave me a look, and shrugged.

"The opportunity never arose, Margot Kate."

"Well, the time is now. And you have to love it or I'll be mad," I told him, and he chuckled.

"Guess I'm going to love it then," he replied, causing me to smile.

"Good," I said, and the two of us continued our usual conversations of whatever.

I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket just as the movie began, and I glared down at the illuminated screen.

liz: hello? where the hell are you?

margot: I'm with Shawn. Don't worry I'll be home later

liz: damnit margot, are you and him conjoined at the hip? you haven't spent a minute apart in the past week

margot: I don't care what you say. It's nice to have a friend here

liz: right. "friend." like I'm buying that. you're probably blushing at the thought of him as I speak

I was not.

margot: I don't care what your "buying" liz. I like hanging out with him and he likes hanging out with me. It's a friendship

liz: so do you and your other friends make out on the beach? and don't deny that one, I have picture proof

margot: you used to be supportive of me pursuing a guy here. suddenly you've totally flipped. you have nothing nice to say about me anymore and that's kind of bullshit

liz: whatever margot. don't stay out too late and please do not get pregnant

margot: no promises ;)

margot: EXTREMELY JUST KIDDING. lol no way in hell

liz: not funny. seriously be safe

margot: I will

Shawn leaned over towards me. "Hey, there's a movie on," he said, not taking his eyes off of me as he took my phone from my hands.

"I'm sorry. I was just responding to my sister. I'll watch with you now," I said, looking at him then back at the movie. I noticed that he was still looking at me and not the movie.

"Shawn, I've seen this 1000 times, but you haven't, so you need to pay attention," I told him.

The screen of my phone lit up, and my heart stopped, imagining if Liz said one more snotty thing about me and Shawn. Thankfully, it was just a Twitter notification. I could read it still over his shoulder.
