"I can't believe my baby girl is nineteen. Stop growing up!" my mother said, hugging me. I laughed a little but shrugged.
"She's not a baby anymore, Jessica. I mean, look at her," Bennett, my mom's fiancé, said with a smile. I liked Bennett, enough as you can like a guy who's going to replace your own father. He was chill and nice and didn't intrude into my life like some step-fathers do. His kids were fine too, Jada, Joel, and Jessa. They're a lot younger than me, but we get along well. Plus, I'm not really around them too much.
