"I'll tell you one day," Phil says. "You just gotta stick around long enough to find out."
"I'll try," Dan chuckles bitterly, walking up the brick stairs to his front door. He swings it open and turns back to Phil. "You wanna.. Come in?"
Phil smiles, nodding as he stands up walking in in front of Dan. "Oh, shit- sorry about the mess in here. My dad.. He uh.. Doesn't take care of anything- ever. I know it looks like a dump but I swear upstairs is better."
"Oh it's alright," Phil chuckles, smiling to cover up making a face at the smell in the room. Dan rushes up the stairs and Phil follows, walking into Dan's room. "Cool wall."
"You like it?" Dan asks hopefully.
"Yeah," Phil nods. "you've got a good music taste."
"Oh.. Thanks," Dan smiles genuinely, making Phil's heart shake and crumble into his hands. Why did this boy have to be such a sweetheart? "So since we're friends now, we gotta know stuff about each other. If that's how friendships work.."
Phil laughs, "Yeah. Deep stuff?" Dan nods. "Okay, Family. What's that like?"
"You go first, so you don't feel bad telling me after I tell you," Dan says, sitting down on his bed and leaning against the wall.
"Okay.. I've got a brother whose a bit older than me. His name's Martyn. Sometimes he's a pain and other times he's great. Hard to tell really, he's quite nosy. Then there's my Mum, and she's a sweetheart, which makes sense cause she married my dad. I guess they're just the typical happy family. We just moved from our old house out in the country. Not sure why though, we didn't have much reason to. We still own the older house and plan to go back eventually, but you never know."
"That's sweet.. Now uh.. Don't pity me when I tell you this stuff okay?"
"Okay, spill." Phil replies.
"Okay.. My mum left when I was little and she comes around from time to time. My dad's as bad as they come. He does drugs, smokes, he's an alcholic. He's friends with killers and I'm sure my dad has the capability to kill, I've seen it. He's abusive toward me so if you ever see me with bruises or broken bones that's why. Oh, and I'm an only child."
"Damn, sorry."
Dan shakes his head. "No pity allowed remember?"
"Okay. Next.."
Two hours later Phil was walking out of Dan's house knowing much more than he did walking in.
Surely, he had expected some of it, and still had more to learn. But he was extremely infatuated with this boy, and wanted to know more. He was sure one day he'd get the chance to know Dan better. Truthfully, Phil had gotten a crush on this beautiful angel, smiling and getting giddy whenever they spoke, no matter what it was about.
Phil was just glad he saw that bar go up to orange.
Dan watches the door close behind Phil, wishing he could stay longer. Though, as much as he loved the company, he was sure his Father would not agree. It was already past five, and Dan's dad could be home any minute.
He went through a mental check list of things his father could yell at him for and come up empty. Although, that won't stop him from finding something to scream about. Hopefully the hits won't leave a mark today.
Dan decides to clean up his room a bit, although it's almost spotless. After he finishes cleaning up he sit on the bed, sighing tiredly.Dan thinks about the hours before with a smile and for once doesn't feel that bad.
Dan almost dozed off when his Father bursts through the door, shouting almost immediately. "DANEIL! Why the FUCK didn't you put your God damn bike in the garage?" He yells, banging around downstairs. He slurs his words, probably drunk.
