13. Fraternizing With The Enemy

I opened my locker to get some books as the first period of school had almost begun. Looking over, I saw Shawn heading my way with a full on grin.

I smiled. "Hey there."

"She's fine Michaels," he said. "Harper's okay."

I was ecstatic. Without thinking I hugged him. "That's amazing."

"Yeah," he chuckled.

I realized what was going on and stepped back. "I'm...so sorry for that," I said, half amused. "I'm just happy that's all."

He laughed softly. "Don't worry. I almost did the same to my dad when he told me."

"When did you go see her?" I asked.

"Yesterday," he replied. "Took your advice and man-ed up. Whether the surgery was successful or not I was going to find out eventually. Why be damaged severely when I can soften the blow right? I'm just glad everything went well. Hopefully my sister can be a normal kid again."

"Wow."

"What?" he asked, a bit confused.

I shook my head. "Nothing."

"Come on, just tell me."

"It's just...I've never really seen you behave this mature before. I like this side of you," I confessed truthfully.

He chuckled. "Maybe I've just decided to grow up a bit."

I smiled.

"I'll see you around Michaels."

"Yeah, sure," I said. "Later."

He started going but stopped and turned. "And if I may correct you Princess, you like all sides of me."

Well, bigger man bigger ego I guess.

And with his signature Shawn Mitchell wink he walked away.

I closed the locker and leaned against it. "You have no idea."

I went to the library during my free period. I just needed somewhere quiet I guess. A pair of hands covered my eyes.

"Hey crazy," he said.

I smiled. "Connor."

He took a seat across from me. "What's up? I haven't spoken to you since Friday."

"Nothing," I replied with a small smile. "I just had a busy weekend."

He noticed my smile and chuckled. "With Shawn I'm guessing?"

"No," I quickly deny. "Well...yes but with the others too.

"Just get back together already," he laughed.

"Shh," I warned him. "And it's not that simple."

"Okay, okay, how about we hang out after school?" he offered.

"Hang out?"

"Yeah," he continued. "You obviously need to get your mind off all this. Besides I'm nice company."

I laughed a little. "What is it with you boys and your egos?"

He shrugged. "So are you up for it? Just a jerk hanging out with his crazy friend."

I chuckled. "Okay, today after school then."

"Great."
