The next morning Luke was awoken by the sound of knocking on his bedroom door. Before he could stand up, however, Ashton walked in and sat down on the bed beside him. “Wake up, sunshine. It’s eight-thirty, you should’ve been up an hour ago.”

“Last time I checked we weren’t on a time schedule today,” Luke said angrily. “and there is literally no reason why I should be awake at a certain time.”

Ashton rolled his eyes. “Everyone else is already up which means you should be, too. Now come on. It’s going to be a good day today.”

“What are we planning on doing?” Luke asked as he stood up.

“Well, Colin’s going to meet up with Russell again, Christian, Dimitri, Michael, and Calum are going with Tom to a swimming event in Oregon, and I think Harry and the boys are going downtown.” Ashton replied, grabbing his phone from the table by the closet. “and as for us, we’re going to a mall a few towns over with Austin and Cody.”

Luke nodded and walked into the small bathroom. Ten minutes later he returned, wearing a blue plaid flannel shirt, dark jeans, and black Converses. “You look gorgeous as always,” Ashton said as he followed him out the door and down the stairs to the parking lot, where Austin and Cody were waiting next to their black Chrysler.

“It’s too early for those comments, Ash,” Luke muttered. He pulled the keys out of his pocket and was getting ready to climb inside the car, but stopped when he noticed a long scratch on the driver’s side door. “Who in the heck keyed my car?!” he yelled, looking around the empty parking lot.

“Are you sure someone keyed it?” Cody asked.

“Look at it!” Luke exclaimed. “Someone definitely keyed my car and when I find out who did it I’m going to kill them.”

“That’s some strong words,” a voice said from behind him. Luke slowly turned around to find Nathan leaning against the dark red Aston Martin that was parked next to them. “I highly doubt you could kill anyone, Hemmings.”

Luke made sure his voice was steady enough before speaking. “What are you doing here?”

“I’m staying at this hotel while I’m in Seattle. Why, is that a problem?” Nathan asked, putting on a pair of designer sunglasses. “Never mind, don’t answer that. Anyway, it looks like I’m the least of your worries. I wonder who could possibly do something as terrible as keying that cheap little car of yours.”

“This car isn’t cheap,” Luke said angrily. “Far from it, actually. Furthermore, don’t you dare stand here in front of me and act all innocent when we all know you’re the one who messed with my car.”

Nathan took a few steps toward Luke, who backed up against the Chrysler. Nathan shook his head and started laughing. “You’re pathetic, Hemmings. You keep telling me you’re going to kill me and all those other pointless threats, but yet you’re so scared that you practically run away every time I come near you.” His smile faded as he walked even closer to Luke, until he was just inches away. “And you know what? You should. You should be scared of me. I am your worst nightmare; the most dangerous and powerful vampire you will ever meet. I have killed countless people and I will not hesitate to kill you and every person you have ever cared about. Don’t worry, though, that time is coming—sooner than later. You—and all of your little friends—are in serious danger as long as I’m around, and I’m definitely not going anywhere anytime soon.” With that said he turned around, got in his car, and sped away.
