*Ashton’s POV*
The first thing I did when I woke up the next morning was turn over to make sure Luke was still lying next to me. For some reason it felt like part of me was still in shock that he was back with me again, and I kept waiting for him to disappear; to materialize into thin air like he had been doing for the past week we had been separated. I would close my eyes and picture him beside me, but when I leaned over to touch him he would fade away, back into the deep depths of my imagination.
Thankfully, however, this morning the figure beside of me was all real and all living. I watched as his chest rose and fell with every breath he took, tears stinging the corners of my eyes as I took in his perfection. He was beautiful, that was for sure, so much so that I sometimes found it hard to believe that I was lucky enough to call someone so flawless mine. I stared at him for a few more moments before gently kissing his cheek and standing up, walking to the window and pulling back the curtains so that the sunshine could brighten up our semi-dark room.
When I turned back around I was surprised to find Luke standing behind me, a smile on his face and an obvious sparkle in his eyes. “Goodmorning, sunshine.”
“Goodmorning,” I returned the smile and wrapped my arms around him, and I realized again how much I had truly and honestly missed having him here with me. “I didn’t mean to wake you up.”
“You didn’t,” Luke reassured me, leaning forwards to quickly press his lips against mine. “I was awake already.”
I nodded and slipped on my shoes. “I don’t usually say this, but do you think we need to go downstairs and meet the others for breakfast?”
Luke rolled his eyes. “Probably so, but I don’t really want to. What’s on our agenda for today, do you know?”
“I have no idea,” I laughed. “but I’m sure the others will. Come on, let’s at least try and be sociable.”
Luke shook his head, but smiled once more as he took my hand and stepped out into the hallway. There was an odd chill in the air once we reached the lobby, and I was thankful that I had remembered my jacket as I pulled it tight around me and nervously glanced out the large floor to ceiling windows lining the walls, halfway expecting to see a shadowed figure with red eyes watching me.
We soon found the others at a large table near a fountain, plates of food and glasses of orange juice and coffee positioned in front of them. When Luke saw Cody he let go of my hand and ran over to him, and it took me a few seconds to figure out why before I remembered that he was one of the reasons he escaped from Nathan in California. “I was starting to think I wouldn’t ever see you again,” Luke was saying. “I’m guessing you escaped from Nash and Cameron’s house without them waking up?”
Cody nodded and sat back down next to Austin. “Yeah, I did. I have a feeling the next time they see me they’re going to want to kill me more than ever, but I’ll worry about that when the time comes.”
