When I woke up the next morning and glanced at my phone on the bedside table I was surprised to find I had three unread text messages. I slowly turned over, careful not to disturb Ashton, and sat up, cradling the phone in my hands. I had a bad feeling about the messages, partly because it was only four-thirty in the morning and partly because I didn’t recognize the number in which they had been sent from. I cautiously glided my fingers across the screen, not really quite sure if I wanted to see what these messages said or not, and waited for the bold-faced text to appear before me.

The first message was simple; it only said ‘I’m sorry’. The second message was slightly more cryptic and for some reason sent a chill down my spine, and I read the words a few times before scrolling down to the next one. I did it for you.

The last message had only been sent five minutes ago, and it was almost as simple as the first one had been—I still love you, Luke, and I’ll still wait for you.

I didn’t want to reply, but I had to know who was sending me these strange texts. After a few seconds of silently debating I typed out the words ‘Who is this?’ into the slide out keyboard and pressed send. As I waited for a reply I couldn’t help but think that maybe I already knew who had sent those messages, and as my phone buzzed once more my assumptions proved to be correct. Sure enough, right there on the screen was a name that I had thought I was through with. Shawn Mendes. He was still obsessed with me for a reason I couldn’t explain or understand, and no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t get him to leave me alone.

I sat there for a little while longer, going over the contents of the text messages in my head. The second one in particular stood out to me—I did it for you. What could Shawn possibly be talking about? What had he done for me?

I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what he was talking about, and when I look back on it now I guess it was because I didn’t want to. I didn’t want to know what the message meant, or why it had been sent to me at such early hours of the morning. All I did know, however, was that I wasn’t going to let three simple text messages worry me all day like I normally would have done. I needed to leave Shawn in the past, because that’s exactly what he was to me—history.

It was at that moment that Ashton’s voice broke through the silence in our room, and I quickly hid my phone under the covers and smiled down at him. “Is it time to get up already?”
I started laughing and softly pressed my lips against his. “Yes, sunshine, it is time to get up already. Colin strictly told us to meet him downstairs in an hour, and you know how irritated he gets when we don’t listen to his orders.”
Ashton smiled and stood up. “Well, I guess we better start getting ready then.”

It didn’t take us long to get packed up because we only had one suitcase, and so soon we were standing downstairs by the gold-framed elevators along with Colin, Cody, and Austin and his girlfriend Camila. Michael and Calum were at the front desk checking out, and I was pleasantly surprised that they had actually decided to wake up in time instead of sleeping in and almost causing us to miss our flight like they normally do.

“Where are we staying when we get to New York?” Camila asked, breaking the comfortable silence. “I need to text Lauren so she’ll know where to meet me.”

“I think it’s the Broadway Hotel right downtown,” Colin flipped through the pages of the black folder he was holding before putting it back in his suitcase. “I don’t mean to sound rude, Camila, but do you have a ticket for the flight? I didn’t know Austin was bringing you so I didn’t know to buy you one.”
