The inside of the building was a lot different from what I had expected. The freshly painted white walls, carpeted floor, and large flat-screen television in the corner painted a very different picture than the ramshackle exterior. Even the wooden door we had entered from was smooth and glossy, but I only had a few moments to marvel in the cleanness of the room before a sharp voice broke through my thoughts. "You've made a mistake coming here." Carter said, and I wonder if he knew that we could hear how afraid he was. "We will end you."

"I didn't think they were that ready to die, to be honest," Cameron added, stepping forward and pushing Nash protectively behind him. "but why should we question it? Less talking, more torture. Isn't that what Nathan tells us?" He laughed, as if his comment was comical, before going to stand beside Carter.

I expected at least one of us to reply to him, but Colin must have decided to go straight for the kill because he suddenly lunged forward, grabbing Cameron by the neck and knocking him to the ground. Nash tried his hardest to pull him off of him, but it was no use. Colin was much too strong, and surprisingly so was Austin. Instead of backing down like he had done in previous encounters he ran up behind Carter and effortlessly snapped his neck, not even giving him a chance to put up any kind of a fight. I fought the urge to laugh at how weak he was, and how easily Austin had killed him. To make sure he was indeed dead Austin grabbed a stake from out of the bag Russell was carrying and forcefully shoved it into Carter's chest, smiling triumphantly as he looked up at us.

I now focused my attention back to Cameron and Colin, who at this point were fighting like trained professionals. He had been right; Cameron was indeed strong, but Colin still had the upper hand. He was a werewolf after all, and everyone knew that one bite from him could end a vampire's life with no problem at all.

Colin was so focused on Cameron and in the middle of transforming that he didn't even notice Nash come up behind him until it was too late. Nash had apparently gotten stronger since the last time I had seen him too, because before any of us could do anything he had pried Colin's arms from around Cameron's neck and twisted them behind his back. Colin only winced even though he was undoubtedly in a tremendous amount of agony, and his resistance to pain was yet another thing that I had come to admire about him.

What Nash didn't realize, however, was that while he was keeping Colin from hurting Cameron any further, Russell and Cody had snuck up behind him and were currently holding a wooden stake just inches above his chest. When Nash realized this his eyes widened, and he barely had a chance to open his mouth and scream before it was all over.

Somehow Cameron was there in seconds, and he caught Nash's lifeless body just before it hit the ground. Tears were flowing freely from his eyes, and he was staring down at Nash as if he expected him to wake up any second. He kept repeating his name over and over, and the raw sadness in his voice almost made me second guess what I was about to do. I grabbed the awaiting stake from Russell's outstretched hand, and as I approached him I was shocked to hear Cameron say four words that I never thought would come out of his mouth: "Just kill me already."

When I just stared at him he looked up at me, his face paler than usual and stained with tears. "You've killed the one person I was living for," he whispered, almost inaudibly. "and so I have no reason to keep going. There's no need to try and fight back, because I have nothing to fight for anymore. Nash was my everything," He had to stop to let a few more tears fall before continuing. "I know I'll be breaking my promise to him, but I just can't...I can't live without him. There's no use."

Once again I almost second guessed myself, remembering Nash's words to Cameron about protecting his family and taking care of his sister. It was at that moment that I remembered the way Cameron had tortured me and taken me away from Ashton back in Los Angeles, and those painful memories were enough for me to make my decision to plunge the stake deep into his chest, twisting it a few times to make sure it penetrated his heart--if creatures like him even had one.
