When Colin arrived back at the cabin twenty minutes later, he was surprised to find everyone still in the large living room—well, almost everyone. “Where’s Christian and Dimitri?” he asked Michael, who was standing by the door. “They left,” he replied simply. “They said that something happened back at the Academy and they had to go check on Rose and Lissa.”
Colin looked at him in disbelief. “What? Are they coming back?”
Michael shrugged and sat down beside Luke, who was asleep on the couch. “I don’t know. They didn’t say much when they left.”
“So much for them being here to protect us,” Colin muttered.
“So, Colin, how did things with Danielle go?” Harry asked as he turned off the TV and set the remote down on the table. “Did she apologize for leaving like she did?”
“Yeah, she apologized,” Colin said after a few moments. “but I haven’t decided whether or not to forgive her yet. She still claims to love me and have feelings for me, but I honestly don’t know what to believe at this point when it comes to her. She also wanted me to drop everything and come on tour with her, but I can’t do that.”
“Why not?” Josh asked absently. “Wouldn’t that be quality time you two could spend together rekindling things?”
Colin rolled his eyes. “For one, I’m a football player. I have to go to practice in a few weeks, and her tour’s going all across the country. Secondly, there will never be any ‘rekindling’ between us. What we had before is gone. If she really loves me and wants to get back with me, she should’ve thought about that before she walked away from me back in Australia.”
“Speaking of leaving, I have to go back to England,” Tom said quietly. “I know this is kind of short notice, but my diving trainer texted me and said my training starts tomorrow for the Olympics.”
Austin glanced at him curiously. “I thought you were a park ranger? Furthermore, how are you going to get to the airport?”
“I am a park ranger,” Tom half-smiled. “but that’s just a part-time job. My main job is an Olympic diver. And to answer your other question, my manager’s going to pick me up at five tomorrow morning and drive me to the airport. No worries.”
Calum started laughing, which woke up Luke. “Could you please be quiet, Cal?” he groaned, grabbing a pillow and putting it over his head. “I’m trying to sleep here.”
“I can see that,” Calum said, still laughing. “but I’m not going to talk any quieter. If you want to sleep you can go upstairs to your room.”
“Fine,” Luke sighed and stood up, stopping to turn around and glare at him. “I hope you sleep terribly tonight, Calum.”
Calum shook his head. “Whatever. Why such the bad attitude, Hemmings? You act like you’re mad at the world.”
“I am mad at the world,” Luke whispered, walking up the stairs. “Goodnight!” Harry called after him. When he had walked in his room and slammed the door, he turned back to Calum. “What in the world has gotten into him?”
Calum put his head in his hands. “I don’t know. Ever since Nathan showed up and has been causing trouble, Luke’s been acting all depressed. He never seems happy anymore. I wish I knew what exactly was bothering him because this can’t be all because of Nathan, but he won’t let me talk to him. He won’t let anyone talk to him, to be honest. It’s getting on my nerves.”
“He needs to get his attitude fixed real quick,” Michael agreed, leaning back and closing his eyes. “because if he doesn’t, we might need to start looking for a new lead singer—one who isn’t mad at everyone and everything.”
