*Ashton's POV*
All I could think about as I made my way onto the interstate later that night was Luke--which isn't surprising, since he's all I ever think about anyway. I just couldn't help but wonder if maybe things had miraculously changed and he had started to have feelings for me, because he actually seemed to want me close to him. He didn't complain or yell at me when I held his hand, he cuddled with me on the beach with no complaints, and he actually seemed sad when I left tonight. I might be overanalyzing things, which I have a habit of doing way too often, but I couldn't help but think I was the reason for his change in behavior and his sudden happiness. That couldn't be possible, though, because ever since I told Luke I was in love with him he's made it very clear that he doesn't, nor will he ever, feel the same way. If that was the case, I thought to myself, Why did I catch him staring at me so much? Why did he seem to crave my touch as much as I craved his?
I was just so confused. I had so many thoughts and emotions running through my mind that I almost drove past the beach house Hunter and I were staying at. For some reason I felt oddly relieved when I saw the empty driveway; I really didn't want to deal with Hunter right now, or the questions he would undoubtedly start asking me as soon as I walked in. I turned the car off and stepped out, immediately taking off my jacket. It was chilly down at the beach, but away from the water it was downright humid, even though it was almost seven at night.
I grabbed the house key out of my pocket and slowly opened the door. Thankfully Hunter had left the air conditioning on, and the cool air hit me as soon as I stepped inside. I walked up the stairs and crawled into the unfamiliar bed in the guest room, staring at the blades of the ceiling fan as it spun around above me. I leaned over and turned on the radio--for some reason I could always sleep better when music was playing--even though I knew I'd probably be up all night. When I had as much on my mind as I did right now, sleep was next to impossible. Even so, I quickly shut off the lamp on the table beside the bed and turned over, forcing my eyes closed.

*Luke's POV*
The next morning when I woke up, for some reason I immediately grabbed my phone from the table and went straight to my inbox. Sure enough, I had one missed call and two text messages from Ashton. Good morning, sunshine. What do you say we spend the day together? I smiled as I read the first message. I quickly deleted it and went to the next one. I'm guessing since you're not replying, you must still be asleep. That's fine. Just make sure to be up and awake by nine-thirty, because that's when I'm coming to pick you up.
I glanced down at my watch--it was already nine-fifteen. I jumped out of bed, quickly showered, and changed into the black sleeveless shirt that I knew Ashton loved, my ripped skinny jeans, and black Vans. I spent the next fifteen minutes styling my hair--five minutes longer than usual--and anxiously waited for Ashton to arrive. I didn't have to wait long, however, because as soon as I sat down on the couch and reached for the television remote, there was a knock on the door. I quickly stood up and eased it open, where I saw Ashton standing outside in the hallway wearing almost the same thing as me, except his shirt had tears and holes in it. For some reason he always felt the need to cut up his shirts. "Good morning," I smiled, putting my arm around him. "How did things go with Hunter?"
Ashton shrugged. "He's definitely not happy about the fact that it's over between us, but I don't care. He'll get over it."
I nodded. "True. So, what are we going to do today?"
"Well first I want to make sure you don't have anything planned," Ashton replied carefully. "because like the text message I sent you earlier said, I want to spend a lot of time with you today."
