Three months later:
*Luke's POV*
Ninety-two days. It had been ninety-two days since the last final showdown with Nathan back in New York, and as I sat here thinking about it I couldn't believe that it had been that long ago. Other times when those memories crossed my mind, however, it felt like a short lifetime had passed since those feelings of fear and anticipation threatened to take a hold of me. Now the only fear I felt was when I stepped onstage in front of a new crowd in a different city every night, but that was a good fear. Until now I had been waking up dreading what the day's events would bring, but now that my reasons to worry had all but disappeared off the face of the earth my life had resumed its normal pace. I still caught myself looking over my shoulder at times, but all in all it was much easier to breathe and I was actually able to relax instead of living in constant fear.
I've heard people say that certain events bring people closer, and I believe it. Even though the circumstances and situations we faced were, more often than not, life threatening at times I think this past year has brought everyone closer. Not just Ashton and I, but Michael and Calum as well. Together we've grown as a band, in more ways than one. It isn't just our music that's evolved--the four of us have also changed for the better, in ways that I didn't even think were possible.
The first half of our United States tour started about a week and a half ago, but thankfully we had a few breaks between shows. That way we could sightsee and get a wider aspect of whatever city or state we were in that went beyond the arena we were playing at that night. Currently we were in Seattle--I had made sure we came back here at least once on this tour--and as soon as the plane landed yesterday morning I had already figured out exactly where I wanted to spent our mini-vacation. Ashton must have felt the same way, because it wasn't long after we received our rental vehicle that we were on the ferry heading towards a very special lighthouse on a very special island.
That's where we were now. Ashton and I were positioned on our favorite rock, making sure we were as close as we could get both to the water and to each other. As I sat here, anxiously waiting for my beloved whales to appear from around the corner, I turned and took in my surroundings. Coincidentally the others were in the area as well today, and I couldn't help but smile at the various activities they were taking part in around me. Colin, who had recovered remarkably from the loss of his girlfriend, was throwing a football with Russell further up the cliff. Camila and Austin were dancing hand in hand to whatever music was coming from the radio they had situated on a picnic table, while Cody and Lauren sat quietly and watched. Dan and Shay were strumming their guitars and singing softly over the sound of the crashing waves on the rocks, and even Michael and Calum--who had thankfully regained almost all of his memory--were walking together down one of the many trails we were surrounded by.
I turned back towards the water, making sure not to remove my arm from around Ashton's shoulder, and watched as ten tall black fins appeared from seemingly out of nowhere. The others stopped whatever they were doing and suddenly were beside us, and soon all of our eyes were locked on the mesmerizingly beautiful creatures as they leaped and jumped out of the water, their bodies shimmering in the late afternoon sun.
Paradise. I had never paid much attention to that word before, or even thought too much in detail about what its definition was. However, as I sat here with my closest friends and the one person I loved more than life itself, I realized that even with all of the trouble and drama we had been involved in, this, right here right now, was truly paradise. Nothing could take us down and nothing could come between us anymore, because together we were unbeatable. We had all we ever needed as long as we were by each other's side, and nothing, not even the most unpredictable of situations, could take that away from us.
