Nathan was back beside Ariana in seconds. "Why'd you kill Nash?" Cameron asked him, not even bothering to wipe his tears away. The utter pain and sadness in his voice broke my heart, and I looked down at the wet forest floor so I didn't have to see his tortured expression.

"Didn't you hear me? He had done exactly what I had asked of him, and so there was no reason for me to keep him alive. He got Luke and Ashton onto the boat, went straight towards the hurricane so they'd get stranded here on this island, and met up with you, Carter, and Shawn so you all could lead them to me." Nathan replied matter-of-factly.

Cameron continued to glare at him, tears steadily streaming down his face. "If I had of known," he said, his voice cracking. "If I had of known you were going to kill my best friend I never would have helped you."

Nathan rolled his eyes. "Quit being so dramatic. It's not that big of a deal."

"Not that big of a deal?" Shawn, who had stayed quiet until then, exclaimed. "You just murdered a completely innocent human!"

Nathan just laughed. "He wasn't innocent and you know it."

Since Nathan's attention was focused on Cameron and the others, I took the opportunity to turn around and face Ashton. "We need to get out of here."

"How?" Ashton whispered, looking up at me. "If we try to run, they'll kill us."

"We're not going to run," I was trying to keep my voice low, even though I knew Nathan could still hear me. "All we have to do is distract them for a few minutes, and then sneak away when we have the chance."

Ashton half-smiled. "That's easier said than done, you know."

I was about to reply, but stopped when I heard footsteps coming from the bushes behind us. I cautiously turned around, expecting to see some more of Nathan's evil vampire friends coming to help kill us. What I didn't expect to see, however, was Michael and Calum standing there, along with Austin, Cody, and Colin.

Nathan saw them as well, and when his eyes met Colin's they turned an even darker shade of red. "Well, well, well. Look who it is. The guy who comes in and thinks he can steal my girlfriend away from me."

"I don't just think I can take your girlfriend," Colin replied, his tone full of anger and hate. "I did."

Nathan took a few steps forward, probably expecting him to back away in fear like I did. Instead, Colin stood exactly where he was and didn't even flinch when Nathan came to stand in front of him, his face just inches away from Colin's neck. "You're brave, Kaepernick, I'll give you that. I bet you think you can come up here and save your friends with no problem, don't you?"

Colin rolled his eyes. "Once again, I don't think, I know I can. In case you haven't forgotten, I'm a werewolf. One little bite from me and your life will be over, Sykes."

While he and Colin were standing there glaring at each other, Cody and Austin ran over to Ashton and I and pushed us behind them. "Are you okay?" Cody whispered, while still not taking his eyes off Ariana and the others.

"Yeah," I replied, hating how much fear was in my voice. "We're fine." I squeezed Ashton's hand, and he smiled up at me. "Aren't we, Ash?"

Ashton nodded quickly. "All good."

"We outnumber you," Colin was saying to Nathan. "Cody and Austin are vampires now too-of course, you know that already-and I'm a werewolf, and even though you have your other little Strigoi friends and Ariana helping you, we can take you all down with no problem."
