They were all still sitting by the pool an hour and a half later when Colin walked over to them and sat down beside Harry. “How’s Austin? Luke texted me earlier and told me what had happened.”
“He’s about the same,” Cody replied solemnly. “Ashton went up there a few minutes ago to check on him and he’s still asleep, which I guess is a good thing. Rest is probably the best thing for him right now.”
“Have you heard from Michael and the others as to when they’re getting back tonight?” Josh asked, looking at his watch. “It’s already five-thirty.”
Colin pulled out his phone. “According to this text that Tom sent me he’s going to a club downtown with a friend of his, Christian and Dimitri are on their way here right now, and Michael and Calum are going to a concert or something.”
“So,” Harry said, changing the subject. “Are you guys excited for the show tomorrow night?”
Ashton nodded enthusiastically. “Of course. I have a new song to premiere to our fans, and I really think they’ll like it.”
“What’s the name of it?” Josh asked. Ashton looked down at the ground shyly. “Disconnected. I wrote it back when we were Australia a few weeks ago. It’s about Luke, actually.”
“I kind of figured that,” Josh replied. “You don’t really do a good job of hiding the fact you’re in love with him, you know.”
“And Luke doesn’t do a good job of hiding the fact that he definitely doesn’t feel the same way about me,” Ashton muttered. “but it’s okay. It’s just a minor problem we have to get through.”
Luke rolled his eyes. “A minor problem. Sure.”
They sat in silence for a few minutes until Josh stood up and pushed his chair under. “I’m going to go get a shower. It’s been a long day. Plus, I probably need to go check on Austin again. I’ll be back down in about an hour or so, okay?”
Harry waved and watched as he walked away. “It has been a long day. I probably need to go take a shower, too, but I’m too comfortable right now to stand up.”
“What are we going to do tomorrow before our show?” Cody wondered. “Do we have any plans, or what?”
“We probably need to stay around here and relax,” Luke replied. “We’re going to need all the rest we can get, since we’re driving straight to Denver after we’re all done performing.”
Colin nodded and leaned back in his seat, closing his eyes. His eyes snapped back open, however, when they heard a loud scream coming from the side of the hotel. “What was that?” Ashton whispered, his voice shaking.
Luke shook his head and took a few steps toward the narrow hallway that separated the pool area from the main lobby. “I’ll go check it out. You guys follow behind me.” He took a deep breath and continued walking forward until he reached the hallway, where he was shocked and horrified to find Josh lying on the ground motionlessly, a dark figure looming over him. “Nathan!” Luke exclaimed. “Get off of him now.”
Nathan stood up and smiled at Luke, blood dripping from his mouth. “We meet yet again, Hemmings.”
Luke looked at him in disbelief. “What are you doing? What has Josh ever done to you?”
“I’m sorry, am I supposed to explain my every move to you?” Nathan smirked. “Look, Hemmings, I told you earlier, I will kill every single person you’re friends with, and from what I’ve seen you’re friends with Josh. So, when I saw him walking back into the hotel, I had the perfect opportunity to attack. Plus, I was starving. I still am, to be honest.”
Ashton tried to push past him and run over to where Josh was, but Nathan blocked his way. “He’s not dead, if that’s what you’re wondering. I probably would have killed him, if you fools hadn’t of showed up at the right time. You always show up at the right time though, don’t you?”
“Why are you like this?” Cody asked him. “Why are you so evil? Why do you hate all of us?”
“Ask Luke,” Nathan replied simply, wiping the corners of his mouth that were still stained with blood. “We’ve already had this little discussion already. Furthermore, I don’t just hate you guys. I hate everyone.” He was about to say something else, but stopped when Christian and Dimitri suddenly appeared behind him. “Oh hey, guys. I was wondering when you were going to show up.”
Christian glared at him. “We’ve already knocked you unconscious one time, do you really want us to do it again?”
Nathan smiled, his fangs glistening. “I was a lot weaker back in Australia, that’s the only reason why you were able to get the best of me. Now, though? I’m tougher. Stronger. More powerful. Much, much more powerful.” He slowly walked towards the two, his eyes darkening. “Of course, you’ll find that out sooner or later.” He suddenly picked both Christian and Dimitri up and, much to everyone’s surprise, threw them against the wall.
“Anyone else want to try me?” he asked, looking around at the others. “I could stand here and fight with you idiots all night.”
“Just leave us alone,” Harry pleaded. “I’m sure you can find another group of innocent people to terrorize every day.”
“Innocent?” Nathan laughed. “You all are far from innocent, but even if you were I wouldn’t dare leave you alone. I find it fun, making your lives miserable.” He turned and started to walk away, but not before he walked over to Luke and whispered, “Your days are numbered, Hemmings.”
When he had disappeared they ran over to Josh, who was unconscious and covered in blood. “We shouldn’t have to turn him,” Dimitri said as he struggled to stand up and walk over to the group. “Nathan didn’t take too much blood, thankfully.”
“Are you and Christian okay?” Colin asked carefully.
Dimitri nodded. “We’ll be fine.”
“Let’s take Josh upstairs,” Cody said, picking him up and taking him up to Austin’s room. “We can come back in a few hours and check on both of them.” Ashton nodded and closed the door quietly, walking down the hallway to him and Luke’s room.
“I honestly don’t know what to do about Nathan,” Christian said. “He’s a lot more powerful and a lot more dangerous than Dimitri and I thought, and it’s going to be a lot harder to take him down.”
“It’s possible though, right?” Ashton whispered. “Please, please tell me it’s possible.”
Dimitri smiled at him reassuringly, but couldn’t hide the fear in his eyes. “Yes. It’s possible. Look, let’s all get some rest. We’ll talk more about Nathan in the morning. It’s been a long day for all of us.”
Luke leaned back on his bed and kicked his shoes off. “That’s the best thing I’ve heard all day.”
