Shiro could not take it anymore.
Y/N L/N would be the death of him, he was sure of it. At first he pretended not to remember Y/N, hoping it would hide the way his heart beat into his throat every time he saw the paladin. There was no way Y/N would ever go for a guy like Shiro right? No way. But soon after they were forced from earth, Shiro actually tried to open up to Y/N and dropped very subtle (not so obvious) hints their way. Y/N was the densest person Shiro had ever met... or was Shiro the dense one? He couldn't decide.
He was basically on official lock down with six other individuals, one of which he had a flaming crush on; things were bound to get out of control. Shiro never really knew how to express himself to others, he had been on his own most of his life, except for the galra soldiers marching about the prison. So when Y/N made an awful pun and flashed their gorgeous smile that just made Shiro want to bite his lower lip and maybe even his neck too- Shirl would lash out in faux annoyance.
Maybe the previous statement should be revised: Shiro would be the death of himself.
All of this was whirling through Shiro's mind as he sat at the table in the dining hall alone with a cup of some warm alien drink that he thought was the closest equivalent to tea. Shiro always loved tea when he was frustrated and alone.
"Hey Spacedad, whatchya doing in here all mopey like and alone?" Y/N's familiar voice rang out making Shiro jump and turn towards the door quickly.
"I wasn't moping!" He spat back.
Y/N's face winced from the acid in Shiro's tone, they had probably walked in at a bad time and ruined something. They always managed that. "Jeez, okay." They laughed half-heartedly, "I'll be on my way. Just got a little thirsty. Sorry."
Shiro softened his expression. His eyebrows knit together a bit harder, though, he was ruining his chance to get close to Y/N again. "You don't need to apologize for being thirsty."
Y/N rolled their eyes, not hearing the apologetic intent behind Shiro's words. "Okay then sorry I interrupted your stupid alone time, I just wanted to make sure you're okay! You're always so isolate-" Y/N stopped in their tracks, his face a bright red.
What Shiro wanted to ask was, 'I thought you were thirsty and that's why you came in here?' But he knew from past experience that his words never came out the right way and it would probably upset Y/N more. Instead he stayed silent and wide eyed, looking at Y/N's burning neck from the table.
"Hah, what am I saying. I'm sorry, I'm just tired." Y/N reached for a cup with a shaky hand. "I just meant... hell I don't know. I just want some water." Thy had brought the glass down but it slipped and crashed on the floor splintering in different directions. "Shit."
Shiro heard the strain in
Y/N's voice, something he was familiar with when he got so angry he wanted to cry. It was the same sound. "Y/N-" not knowing what to say, he stood and began to help the F/C paladin clean up the glass with an Altean vacuum like device.
They were both silent, Shiro was scared to look up to Y/N. He didn't want to see whatever hurt or anger he caused him.
"Shiro..." Y/N spoke suddenly and Shiro stopped cleaning the glass. "Why do you always go off on your own? I don't mean to annoy you; I just worry. I want to-" they stopped there, afraid of where their word would take them.
"I don't know... I'm just, used to it I guess." Shiro answered. He saw Y/N's fingers curl under their palms and their arms were almost shaking. He looked up to see tears gathering in Y/N's eyes.
Shiro pushed the broken glass and cleaning device aside and brought Y/N's chin up so he could see their face fully. His movements were so tender they even surprised himself. Y/N's eyes widened and a tear fell from each of their eyes.
"I-I'm used I it... but that doesn't mean I want to be alone all the time." Shiro spoke slowly, choosing his words carefully so he wouldn't mess up. He wiped the tears off of Y/N's cheeks. "Sometimes when I speak, it comes out differently than what I meant and it hurts you. This whole time I've been messing up my words because I'm so afraid of what I can't take back."
"Shiro..." Y/N's mouth hung slightly open in disbelief. "What are you trying to say?"
"Everything I should have before. I just, I don't know how." Shiro met Y/N's eyes steadily. He wasn't a good judge of other people's needs or emotions, but he saw something in Y/N's E/C eyes that told him: kiss me.
So he did.
Shiro used the hands he had on Y/N's face to being their face close to his and awkwardly smashed their lips together. After the initial shock passed over
Y/N, their arms wrapped up into Shiro's hair and tugged at the ends. Shiro unintentionally moaned and pulled away with a pink flush across his cheeks.
Y/N's eyes searched Shiro's, unsure of what to do next. He didn't mean to have such an intense reaction, Shiro had only pressed their lips together, it was barely a kiss.
Looking at the black paladins ever-reddening face, Y/N knew it was the first time something like this has happened to Shiro.
"Tilt your head to the right." Y/N coaxed softly.
Shiro obliged and Y/N went in this time, lips parted and began to slowly kiss the black/white haired boy. Shiro's arms wrapped around Y/N's body and he pulled them closer as his heart beat rapidly. Their tongues and mouths somehow just knew what to do. It was incredible.
Shiro's right hand began to drag Y/N's jacket off of their shoulder and Y/N pulled away, breathless. "Woah, are you... are you sure you want to go there?"
Shiro bit his lower lip and looked between Y/N's eyes and their exposed shoulder a few times. "No... at least, not here?" Shiro smirked a bit, unsure of how his lame flirt tactic was working on Y/N.
Well it obviously worked well, because Y/N's face flushed and they stood quickly, pulling Shiro with them and dragged him to their room.
Neither of them made it to dinner that night.
