The team will go out of their way to protect Pidge. I noticed this while rewatching the series. If anyone attacks them they're dealt with.

Pidge draws the commanders attention.

Falling down a slide of death? Put Pidge on your shoulders out of reach
They're never standing by themselves. Hunk and Shiro are mainly by them. Two biggest guys on the team.
Pidge is never exposed. Never on the edge of the group
Not even that sloth thing touches them!
Everyone complaining? Keep going. Pidge having a mental breakdown? Stop, we're gonna relax
All verbal until Allura threw goop at them. GAME ON! GO LOOSE PIDGE!
