Lance
I'm just gonna say it now, but Lance was bullied when he was a child.
He was often teased about the accent he eventually grew out of, his hand-me-down clothes, and his haircut which was done by his mother over the kitchen sink.
You were probably the only one who didn't say one mean remark about him. Instead, you defended him at recess. Everyday would would stand in front of him, telling off the other children for being cold hearted. Often they would listen for the rest of the day, but the cycle would start all over again the next day.
Even so, you never stopped defending him. The two of you eventually grew close because of that, and he ended up asking you out under the slide, a dandelion in hand.
You ended up 'dating' from third to fifth grade, when you ended up moving to a different state due to your mother's work. He was heartbroken, but learned to fend for himself, becoming the class clown to stop the kids from picking on him.
You both met years later at the garrison when you were placed into the same piloting class as him. He didn't recognize you at first, but when he heard your name he knew for sure the girl next to him was his first love.
Meanwhile you knew it was him when you first entered the classroom, just from the scruffy haircut and fake-confident posture alone. Without thinking you took the seat next to him, though you had no clue how to approach him. Did he even remember you?
All your worry melted away when he tapped on your shoulder, a shy smile on his face that brought you back to that day under the slide.
Later that week, he took you on your first formal date. From then on, you became his partner in crime. You snuck out of the garrison at night, stayed in each others dorms (not in a sexual sense, just for spa nights), and eventually got caught up in the whole mess of Voltron together.

Keith
Keith had major anger issues, and second grade was the height of it.
He would always blow up at teachers and pick fights with the other students. Everyone was afraid of him.
Except for you.
You were the bravest out of the others, growing up with a sister with anger issues as well. Gradually you tried to befriend him, much to his surprise. He would yell at you to go away, and you would stay right in your seat. He'd push you onto the wood chips and you'd just laugh and brush it off. What's wrong with this girl?
Eventually you got on his good side, able to calm him down when he was having fits. The teachers thought you were a literal angel.
He ended up asking you to be his girlfriend at the end of second grade, giving you a kiss on the cheek when you accepted.
The teachers knew not to separate the two of you, keeping you in the same class until middle school rolled around. You ended up going to a different school, and he never heard from you again.
Until your second year in the garrison when you got put in the same simulation group, you being the engineer.
You knew that fiery personality anywhere. This was definitely your Keith, and you didn't hesitate to tell him so.
He didn't answer, instead giving you a look of complete shock. He tried to get a few words out, but he couldn't think of the right thing to say. So instead you just gave him a hug, him returning it right away (much to the shock of your other crew member).
He never took you on any official dates, though he made it very clear that you were his girlfriend.
Eventually when he got kicked out of the garrison you ended up leaving with him.

Pidge
Being the nerd that she is, Pidge was always shy when it came to making friends when she was younger. Most of the day she just stuck to her books and homework.
Until you came around. You were very sociable when you were younger, and she envied your talent of befriending the class.
One day, you plopped down in the seat next to her, asking about the book she was reading. Her eyes practically lit up as she explained the plot to you, offering to let you borrow a copy of the first one in the series. You happily agreed, and from then on you were best friends.
You always read to each other and exchanged books, and she helped you all the time with your homework.
It was at a sleepover in the fourth grade when she explained her feelings towards you. She had no idea what they were, her whole life thinking love was only a thing a woman felt for a man.
You helped her realize that what she had was a crush, and that you felt the same way. From that day forward the two of you dated in secret, but in the middle of sixth grade your parents got divorced and you were forced to change schools in order to live with your mother.
When you were in the garrison you always paid special attention to Pidge, but you never knew why. It was only when you were aboard the Castle of Lions that you realized she was Katie.
She admits to knowing who you were for the year you went to the garrison together, but didn't want to risk blowing her cover. After that, you two eventually grow closer and closer until she asked you out once more during a sleepover.
No matter what the two of you always fight together, the dynamic proven to be very deadly. You'd do anything to protect each other, making sure you'd never be separated again.

Hunk
He was one of the most liked kids in the first grade with how sweet and friendly he was.
On the contrary, you were pretty shy as a child and would often sit and play or color by yourself. He always noticed how lonely you looked, and on multiple occasions he would sit down to talk to you, allowing you to borrow his favorite toys and crayons.
You developed a crush on him soon after, though you were too shy to ask to play with him. Eventually he asked you instead, to which you giddily obliged.
The kids were playing house and made you and Hunk the mommy and daddy. It flustered you beyond belief but you played along, so well that by the end of the game Hunk and you were acting like a real married couple.
After that he ended up asking you to play every day, insisting that you were the mom and he was the dad.
He asked you out on valentine's day, giving you a messy card made with glitter glue and maker. Your little romance only lasted for a short year though before your new step dad insisted you and your siblings were put into a catholic school.
Even so, you never forgot about him and stayed in touch until middle school started. The two of you drifted apart, and didn't see each other again until the garrison.
As soon as you saw him at orientation you nearly pounced on him, sprinting across the room to give him a hug. He was confused, but didn't resist once he saw your familiar face.
The two of you would often sneak into the kitchens to make your own meals after curfew, almost getting caught a multitude of times.
He asked you out when you were hiding from Iverson, both cramped under a counter. He honestly thought you were going to die and wanted it to be his last words.

Shiro
In the third grade he was such a teachers pet, and so were you.
At first it started as the two of you working together to help the teacher out and assisting kids with homework, but it soon became more of a competition.
You both became the most hated kids in class, sucking up to the teacher and finishing up all your work only to ask for more.
But neither of you would back down.
Your teacher at one point makes a comment about how cute the two of you would be together, and neither of you disagree. Later on that day during snack time Shiro approaches you and offers to back down if you agree to be his girlfriend.
The teacher was right, the two of you made an adorable power couple. That is, until your elementary shut down in the fifth grade and you were forced to attend two different schools.
You didn't meet him again until your last year at the garrison. You were the top students out of the school and were introduced by mutual friends.
Later on in private you spoke with him again, this time about your childhood relationship. You two spent hours reminiscing about the old times and talking about your life after the split. Afterwards he asked you on a date to "catch up more" a week before the he left for Kerberos.
He promises to continue where you left off when he gets back, but five months later their ship was reported missing.
You had lost all hope until the night you were reunited, where the two of you had your first real kiss.
