Thunderstorms

Hailey's age: 16
Twins age: 2

Hailey put her bag down on the couch after school. She picked up her cell and made her way into the kitchen. Winnie came running in squealing.
"Sisssy!!!"
"Hey Winnie. How was daycare?"
"Goood. I got to eat cookies!"
Hailey rolled her eyes. Susie came in silently. She seemed off.
"Hey Susie, you hungry?"
"...no..."
Susie ran to her room without another word. Hailey watched as she left with confusion on her face. Winnie jumped into Hailey's arms.
"Carry me!"
Hailey made sure she wouldn't drop Winnie.
"Hey Winnie, wanna watch T.V?"
"Yeah."
Hailey carried her into the living room and turned on some cartoons.
She then went to Susies room, to see Susie in her room.
"Susie, what's the matter?"
"I heard it's gonna rain..."
"Oh. Don't worry. Papa and Dad will protect us."
"Sissy. I'm scared. I don't wanna die."
"Oh sweetie, don't think about that. Let's go watch some t.v."
Susie nodded.

Hailey led Susie to the living room where Winnie was watching cartoons. Then Hailey's phone sent an alert signal.
Severe Thunderstorm Warning. All Civilians are to shelter in place till 12:00 tomorrow afternoon. Please take shelter immediately.

Hailey froze. She told Susie it will be ok.

She looked outside and the rain was already falling.

"Sissy, what's wrong?"
"Winnie, Susie, go to Papas room and don't touch anything. "
They both ran to Phils room while Hailey grabbed some water bottles and other things...like food.

She joined them holding onto her phone, praying her father's would call. This has never happened before.

Winnie jumped onto Phils bed. Susie clung to Hailey, sobbing.
"Susie, it's ok. I'm gonna take care of us. I promise. Dad and Papa are ok."
Hailey spoke gently while getting Winnie over to her. She put them in the closet with a movie, and snacks.
"We are having a movie night. It'll be so much fun. But we can't leave the closet. It's a game. Ok?"
Hailey hoped her sisters were this gullible. Luckily they were.

They watched some cartoons on Netflix as Hailey got them settled.

There was still not a word from Dan or Phil.

She sat next to Susie, holding her close, Winnie beside her and prayed they would be ok.

Hailey smiled at her sleeping sisters. They fell asleep before the pure wrath of the storm was revealed. Hailey sat in the now dark closet with her cell.

Dan and Phil hasn't made a peep. She began to worry as the wind howled outside. Susie, stirred in her sleep, clinging to Hailey's side

Hailey listened to the wind howling. She trembled slightly.

There was a loud crash outside, causing her to jump slightly.

Then she heard glass shatter and she held back a scream.

She wanted to cry, but she had two, 2 years olds to keep calm.

They both woke up to the sound of the crash. Susie screamed, and Winnie started crying.

Great.

Hailey held them close, hoping they would calm down.
"It's ok. It's ok. I got you both."
Hailey felt a few tears of her own leave her eyes.

She held back her absolute desire to sob like crazy.

She turned up her tablet and held them close as the girls hid their faces in her shirt.

Hailey woke up to voices shouting her name.
Somehow she fell alseep. Susie and Winnie still clung to her, but you could hear their soft snores leaving their lips.
"Hailey!" A familiar voice called out. She stood up, making sure not to wake her sisters.
She left the closet and opened Phils door to see her panicked parents.
"Omg, Hailey, Winnie, Susie, I'm so glad you're ok." Phil said running to her.
Dan took Susie and Winnie who started to wake up. Hailey clung to Phil.
"Papa, I was so scared. Something broke during the storm. I just-"
"You did good sweetie. You got both of them safe. "
Susie hoped out of Dan's arms.

She ran to Hailey and hugged her.
"I love you so much."

A/N I love in the state where Hurricane Harvey is but I'm safe. I send my prayers to everyone in South Texas at the Gulf. Please stay safe. So yeah. Crazy week ahead.

I wrote this because recently we had so many rain storms and thunderstorms.

So yeah I'm deathly scared of storms so yeah I'm gonna go mentally prepare for this storm and just keep and eye on this hurricane.
