This Isn't Just My Kid

Tw: This does involve death of some sort, and is a more drama, deep story.  I'm taking a spin on this prompt so read with caution.

Hailey lied on her bed. It was only 8 weeks ago she found out she was gonna be a mother. That was the same day she told her father's who were downstairs, planning her next doctor appointment.

She got a text from the babies father.
Jacob texted her, making her smile.
I miss you and our baby.

Hailey dialed his number and he picked up instantly.
"I knew I could get you to pick up the phone."
"Yes Jacob. You win." Hailey giggled. She was nauseous, but hearing the love of her life's voice made it all not seem so bad.
"How's our baby doing?"
"The baby is doing great. The baby misses you."
"Well Hailey we need to talk."

Hailey sat there in confusion. Her stomach hurt, she clutched it for a minute and nodded before realizing he can't see her.
"Go on babe." She said. The pain subsided.
"Hailey, I love the idea of having a baby...but in the future."

Hailey froze.

"Babe, Babe you there?"

Hailey would be more upset about what Jacob said, but she was more concerned about the blood seeping onto her blanket.
"PAPA!!!"

Instantly Jacob hung up, but Hailey didn't care.

Phil rushed in with worried eyes.
"What- Oh my gosh!" Phil shouted. He picked up Hailey as she bleed and carried her to the bathtub.
"Dan call 999!" Phil called out.

Dan was with the twins in the living room, Phil by his side when Hailey screamed out.

Phil ran to get her, and the twins got up.
"Daddy, what's going on?" Winnie asked. She still had a tiny lisp, and it was adorable to Dan.
"I don't know sweetie. We will know soon."
Dan picked up Winnie and Susie and carried them into their room when Phil called out saying to call 999.

Now Dan really wanted to panic.

He ran upstairs to see Hailey bleeding out and looking fairly pale.

Dan didn't hesitate to pull out his cell and he dialed the hospital they were on their way.

Phil picked up Hailey once more, and wrapped her in a towel so blood won't get in the taxi.

By now Susie and Winnie were at the door. Dan scooped them into his arms and tells Phil he'll meet him there.
"Dan-"
"Phil go, we don't have time. Hailey is pregnant. "

Phil didn't complain no more. He ran outside and into a taxi.

Dan called Zoella since she was closer to their place.
"Zoe I need you to watch the twins. It's an emergency." Dan rambled.

Winnie clung to Dan, but Susie stared at the door. Susie preferred Hailey over everyone else.

Susie didn't want Hailey to die.

(Time Skip 15 minutes later.)

Zoe came in. She was still trying to get pregnant.
"Hey Dan."
She saw Dan pacing and the twins watching a movie. Well Winnie was. Susie was watching Dan.
"Hey." Dan mumbled.

"What happened? What did you see?" Zoe asked.
"I don't know. She was bleeding. More than a period. I didn't understand."

Zoella went silent.

"Zoe, what is it...?" Dan asked.

"Dan, Hailey had a miscarriage."

The words hit Dan like a weight. He felt an ache in his heart.
"I got to go see her. My ride is here. Thanks Zoe. Better I hear it here than when she tells us."

Dan wanted to cry, but he didn't.

He got in the taxi and rushed to the hospital.

He got there to see Phil in the waiting room.
"Dan?!"
"Zoe is watching the little ones." Dan said in a monotone voice.

Phil looked concerned.
"There was so much blood. They won't tell me anything."
"Phil when the doctor tells us we can see her, let me go in first and you talk to the doctor. I need a word with Hailey."

Phil nodded not even seconds before the doctor came out with a sad look on her face.
"Dan Howell and Phil Lester, your daughter is ready to be visited. Someone needs to fill out paperwork though."

Phil walked to the doctor and Dan walked to the hospital room where he saw a Hailey with tears staining her face.
"Daddy...."
"It's ok sweetheart." Dan said rushing to her side. She clung to him and soaked his shirt.
"I lost it..." Hailey sobbed over and over.
Dan rubbed her shoulder in soothing cirlces.
"Dad, Jacob was gonna leave me too."

Outside there was a crash, diverting Dan's attention from Hailey, until Jacob appeared.
"Babe, I came over and I was told you were here!" Jacob ran to Hailey's side.
"I hate you..." Hailey muttered.

Dan looked at Jacob disgusted.
"This was your child too, you know." Dan said coldly.
Jacob looked down in remorse.
"Is the baby ok though?"

Dan lost it, and Phil saw from the doorway. He spent time crying, and mourning his lost grandchild.

"No!! Just get out! You didn't wanna be involved with the baby, don't go smooching of my daughter hoping you guys will still be together. Don't come back! People like you don't deserve people who would bear your freaking children!"

Jacob nodded and ran out.

Hailey looked at Dan grateful.
"Thanks Dad."
"Dan, that was incredible. You made him cry." Phil said coming in.

"Hailey don't worry about anything. You deserve much better than him."
"I loved him."
"I know. But he doesn't deserve you."

Hailey smiled as more tears fell.

They eventually went home, and Hailey slept on the couch with Susie by her side.

It was his kid too. Maybe this was his fault.

Hailey grabbed her phone after getting 1000 texts from Jacob.

And just like that, she dumped him and blocked his number.

A/N 975 words, that's insane. I wrote about a miscarriage because it is a real thing that people don't consider on how heartbreaking it really is. I hope you all had a magical Christmas, and I hope this didn't make you too sad.
