Hailey's age : 9 y/o

  Dan and Phil sat in the audience as they waited for the show to start. It was Hailey's class play. It was a mother's day performance, but Hailey begged for them to be there. She had to be there anyway.

"Hailey remember say your line. You can't say whatever monologue you get mixed up with your line, ok?"
Hailey nodded. She had a plan.

She want to the other kids who were rehearsing lines. Hailey had one line.
I love my mom so much I would do anything to make her happy.
   Hailey looked at her best friend Julie and nodded. She was gonna make sure her father's felt recognized.

The show started. Everyone was saying thier lines. Then it was Hailey's turn. She looked at her father's in the audience. Dan smiled at her, while Phil waved.
"I love my family so much. I would do anything for them. My father's both work on the internet. I don't have a mom but I have something better. I have my papa and dad."

Dan and Phil's eyes welled with tears. Someone laughed but shut up quickly. Dan glared at them. Then someone stood up and clapped. Before you knew it there was a standing ovation.

Hailey's teacher ran onstage.

"No Hailey. You had one job!"
Dan stood up and came onstage.
"Excuse me? Leave her alone. Why does it matter anyway. She was making us feel special. Why do you care?"
Phil followed and scooped Hailey into his arms giving her a big hug. Hailey clung to him.
"Because it's mothers day play, not about fathers. They don't do nearly as much as mothers do."
The audience gasped. Dan glared at her. Hailey hoped out of Phils arms.
"That's not true. Daddy plays with me and they read to me. They make me pancakes and breakfwest.  They even make me laugh when I'm sick."
The teacher rolled her eyes.
"Hailey please do us a favor and be quiet. Yours don't count. You don't have a mom, though thats-"
Dan cut the teacher off and pulling her offstage. After a bit of whispering they came back.

Someone in the audience stood up and the clapping continued.

Dan picked up Hailey in her arms and held her up in the air. Phil began singing the lion king, causing everyone to laugh.

Dan smiled knowing his daughter got this from him and Phil. She was willing to step out and stand up for what she believes in, and he couldn't love her more.
