Just A Nightmare

Before I start this oneshot, trigger warning! This is a heavy oneshot as this has suicide attempts, car accidents, depression, and abuse so don't read this if that will trigger you. Please know you guys are all important and don't let people treat you any different. You all are amazing and stay safe.

Winnie closed her eyes, tears leaving them. She had a giant bruise on her cheek. Her new girlfriend wasn't the nicest to her. Winnie hated making excuses for her new girlfriends bad actions.

After Bethany died 2 years ago from a car accident, Winnie started dating Mallory. Mallory was the cool girl of the school and she gave Winnie so much attention which Winnie desperately needed. This was fine until Mallory used this against her.

"But I don't want to do this." Winnie cried as she was handed some pills.
"You don't want people to shame you across the school. You don't want them to hate you. Take the pill."
Mallory slapped Winnie, making her comply. Winnie couldn't remember the rest of that night. She just remembered that Mallory became cruel and she left bruised and with a broken arm.

Winnie cried. She wanted the pain to stop.

Dan and Phil were out dropping Susie off at a friend's house. Winnie didn't have many friends, so she never got asked to sleepovers anymore.

Mallory took care of anyone who didn't think she was perfect for me.

I began pulling at my hair. Any pain was better than the mental pain and memories I have of her. I can't escape her. She's everywhere. Not like her parents could help her, they weren't allowed. Mallory said so.

Winnie grabbed her phone and ran outside. She didn't care that it was the middle of January and it was freezing outside; she just needed to escape. She ended up on the edge of a bridge. Winnie sat there staring into the cold abyss of the water.

I could just jump. It'll all be over. She can't follow me there.

Winnies phone was ringing. It was Hailey.
"Yes." Winnie answered. Her voice shaking.
"Winnie, where are you. Are you ok?!" Hailey asked. You could here Dan crying in the background and Phil consoling him .
"I'm gonna jump. " She said.
"Winnie, listen to me. It's all going to be ok. I've been there. I've been with so many terrible people who used me and who hurt me. Don't do this. You can find happiness I swear."

Winnie hung up in the middle of Haileys sentence.

She stared into the water, tears pouring down her face. She could hear the sirens and with that she jumped. Before she could fall a hand grabbed her jacket and pulled her up.

It was all a blurr. The ride to the hospital. She could only focus on her hands, fidgeting in her lap. The commotion was tuned out by her thoughts.

Next thing you know she's sitting in a hospital bed. Dan and Phil ran in tear stained moments after she got there.
"Winnie!" Dan cried as he wrapped her up in his arms.
"I'm so sorry Dad. I'm an embarrassment. I did drugs. I didn't want to. I went to parties and I didn't want to. I lost everything-" Winnies sobs interrupted statement as she cried into her father's chest. Dan was crying. Phil was on the other side and tears were leaving his blue eyes just like the rest of them.
"It's all going to be ok Winnie. Mallory will be taken care of. Don't think for a second we can't help you. As for this, we are going to set up an appointment with a therapist. " Phil explained rubbing his daughters back as she broke down every barrier she put up since the death of the girl she loved.

She loved Bethany....

"Dad I don't want to be sad anymore. Will this work?"

Dan sobbed as he could hear people shouting his name...

"Dan! DAN! " Phil called. Dan woke up to Phil shaking him awake.
Dan was gasping for air.
"What....its all ok?" Dan asked as he rubbed his eyes. He had these nightmares when Hailey started dating. Dan had a genuine fear of his children suffering the same pain he went through. He doesn't want them depressed.

He wants them to be safe in his arms.
"Dan did you have that dream again?" Phil asked.
"Yeah.." Dan said tears leaving his eyes.

Phil wrapped Dan up in his arms.

Phil knew Dan just wanted his daughters to be safe, and that he didn't want his girls to slip into depression. He also knew Dan knew he couldn't control that.

"The twins are up. Haileys coming over and Bethany is coming over as well. Time to met the girl making our daughter happy." Phil whispered in Dan's ear.

Dan nodded as he was relieved to be in reality.

He got up and went to hug his girls.
"I love you so much."
