I slowly turned the door knob and quietly opened the door, because I didn't know if he was asleep or not. I walked in closing the door behind me and saw him sleeping peacefully in his bed. He had a bandage around his head and you could just see the blood underneath it. He was also connected to a drip and an oxygen mask. As I walked in I noticed a nurse writing on a clipboard from the end of his bed
"How badly hurt is he" I asked.
"Well he has 6 stitches in his head and a lot of bruising around the lungs, but after a week or so he will be ok to go home"
"Thank you" I said as she put the clipboard back and left the room.
I headed towards the chair beside his bed, I carefully held his hand and watched his chest rise and fall so peacefully as he slept. I started to feel tears rolling down my cheeks but I wiped them away as I tried my best to stay strong. He is going to be fine I kept reminding myself, it wasn’t like he was in a coma and had brain damage that was life threatening, he could go home in a week and soon things will be back to normal. Though things never seemed to stay ‘normal’ for me.
"I should have never have let you answer the door, I should have answered it myself, I am sooo sorry" I whispered, kissing his hand.
I then felt his hand take a firm grip onto mine, I looked up and saw he was just waking up.
"Kate?" he said looking around confusedly and trying to take his mask off
"No no it ok, I am right here" I said putting his mask back on.
He smiled then looked around "Who else is here?" he mumbled, you could only just understand him because of the oxygen mask.
"Your mum, dad and I think Tom is here too...would you like me to get them?" I asked standing out of my seat
He grabbed my arm "No its fine” he said as I sat back down
"Man I love you so much, I thought I was going to loose you today"
He then held my cheek in his hand "I would never leave you" he said smiling
"You know it took me 2 hours to get my statement to the police completed"
"Really?"
"Yeah, but your so worth it" I said smiling.
He then laughed and coughed and coughed
"I am so sorry here" I said giving him a cup of water and helping him up.
He took off his oxygen mask, gladly took the drink. He then handed it back to me. I put the cup on the side table helping him with his mask as he sat back down. It was now right on 7pm
"I think I'd better go and let your family see you, besides I think I will keep you from recovering by making you laugh all the time"
"No please stay" he begged.
"I still have to tell my parents where I am and they will probably stay for a bit...and then I'll go, ok?"
"Alright" he said. I then kissed him on the forehead went outside.
I saw Tom sitting on his Dad's laps.
"Hello Mr. Si-"
He cut me off "Brad" he said looking at me.
"Right sorry Brad"
"Its ok" he chuckled.
"And you must be Tommy" I bent down and said.
"No..this is George" Brad said.
"Really?!" I asked
"No this is Tommy" he said laughing.
