At 6am I was startled awake by my alarm. Usually I will drift back off to sleep until my mum comes in to wake me, but I was roused by the beaded sweat on my forehead. Brushing it off with the corner of my sheet I peer out the window. I momentarily pondered whether or not if I should go to school, I seriously look like a mess. Tangled hair, bags under my eyes, funny thing is I don't even remember having a nightmare . . . Nah I think I'll stay home today but then I remember. Cody. Tutoring. Laptop.
. . .
For the first time since the move, I was early to math class . . . way too early. I sit down at my usual seat, the middle of the middle row next to Cody who hadn't arrived yet. I assembled my belongings on my dest whilst taking sips of my cappuccino. The dead silence of the room echoed through my head. Don't think about it.
I keep my head down and draw circles on the corner of my page and continue to take sips of my coffee. The bell indicating the start of class sounds, students all over the classroom hurry over to their seats before the teacher arrives.
"Coffee obviously not working" I snap my head up to the source of the voice.
"Hu?" I look up at Cody confusedly to see him taking a seat next to me.
I watched him chuckle "I just said hey and you didn't answer me" He pouted.
"Oh sorry"
How. Embarrassing.
"Its cool, didn't you sleep very well last night?"
"Nah its this stupid test . . ."
"Well then, your lucky I'm here aren't you" He sits himself up.
"Oh yes, your my hero!" I sigh dramatically.
"No need for sarcasm"
I laugh as Mr. Maklay walks in and my smile immediately drops.
"Finally!" I breathe a sigh of relief
"Have fun studding Kate" Mr. Maklay smirks.
"I'll try not to" I smirk on my way out.
"God that was hell!" I groan to Erin.
"Hell? What planet do you come from woman!"
"Hello this is me + math!"
"True, but god Mr. Maklay is hot!!" She giggles as she leans on my shoulder.
Erin and I talked when we heard "Would Kate Brown please come to reception" Echo through the school.
"Laptop!" We squealed in sync.
"I will see you in music!" She hugs me.
I hug her back and start to head off when I stop.
"ERIN!"
"Yea?" She asks spinning on her heel.
"Where is the reception?!"
I watch her laugh as she skips back over and show me the way.
"Hey, umm . . . my name was announced on the loudspeaker . . ."
"Name?" Our receptionist Mrs. White asked bitterly.
"Kate Brown"
"One moment please"
I glance at Erin and patiently wait. She obviously doesn't like her job.
