Chapter 12

"Hey Kate"

"Hey Cody" I replied skipping into music earning me many glares from Olivia but to be honest I couldn't give a stuff, talking to Cody yesterday on the beach gave me confidence and something to smile about.

"Ok 10 minutes practice and then we will get started" Mrs Corby announced.

"Hey, You guys ready for our performance?" I sing songed taking a seat at the piano with Erin. Danielle and Erin both nodded.

"Cool" I smiled counting them in. Danielle strummed on her guitar beautifully and Erin played her chords on the piano flawlessly as I played the melody. Danielle and Erin sang the verses and when the chorus came up I stopped playing, giving Erin control of the piano so we had an equal playing time.

"Practice time is over" Cody said poking his head through the door after our 3rd practice.

"Thanks" Danielle smiled.

I felt my stomach drop. Oh gosh here come the nerves.

As we sat down and waited for the first group to go up my hands started to shake like crazy.

"How am I supposed to play with these" I giggled to Erin gesturing my hands.

"Don't worry once you start they go away"

I nodded and awaited for Mrs Corby to call out the first group "Olivia and Taylah"

I stayed polite, listening to their performance. Taylah was on guitar whilst Olivia was singing. Taylah looked confident and smiled brightly as she got comfortable. Yep she's done this before.

"When your ready" Mrs Corby smiled.

I watched Taylah as she strummed Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars. During the intro she kept her eyes on Xavier and I lost concentration when Olivia started to sing. She was ok but overly confident, sending me daggers every now and then.

"Good, ok next Cody and Xavier"

My heart skipped a beat when I heard his name. I gave him my full attention smiling as he smiled at me. His deep blue eyes were rich in concentration. I looked up to find him already looking at me, feeling my cheeks go a rosy red I focused on a loose thread of carpet to cover up my blush.

"Perfect as always" Taylah smiled to Xavier, twisting a curl of hair around her finger as they sat down from performing their piece.

"You were amazing where did you learn to play like that?" I asked Cody as he sat down next to me. His guitar playing was more advanced then how it was yesterday in the back room. Probably didn't want to show off.

"My dad taught me" he smiled.

"Kate, Erin and Danielle" Mrs Corby announced.

"Good luck" He smiled as I took a seat next to Erin.

"Oh lord have mercy" Olivia snarled.

"And everything with ears" Taylah giggled along with her.

"That's quiet enough!" Mrs Corby yelled for the first time ever.

"Ready?" I asked the group as I took a deep breath, trying to settle my nerves.

They both nodded. Ok this is it. I told myself taking one more deep breath. Once i sarted playong Fearless by Taylor Swift with Erin and Danielle the whole world started to become a blur as the music engulfed me. This is my time. My time to play and my time to be at peace and once I started I loved it.
