Thomas's POV

The next couple of seconds were a blur. A berg dropped in front of us, sending a whirlpool of sand and dust into the air. I picked up the bottom of my shirt and held it close to my lips so I wouldn't choke. The stinging of the dust in my eyes was like a wasp stinging my eyelids. Was it Wicked? The berg dropped to the floor, momentarily startling the three weirdos who previously had Daniel at a surrender.

The thought of getting Teresa and Harriet back was the only thing that stopped me from running from the berg, running from the scorch completely. I watched as the doors began to open, I was bracing myself for the firing squad to rush out, I knew I was going to be faced with Janson again.

"Oh.My.God," Daniel stuttered, staring into the doorway. I couldn't see what he was looking at due to the dust, then I could just make out the figure of a young woman, she was tall and slim with black silk locks over her shoulder. As she walked out, I noticed that she had a cut down her cheek that seemed to stop her from smiling as widely as she usually does.

"Tere-" I couldn't finish as my throat closed up from the sand. A stinging pain like acid ran down my throat and burned my lungs. Not even that stopped me from running to her though, there was too much happening all at the same time. I couldn't really breathe.

Everything passed like a blur, I wasn't even sure if what was happening was real or in my head, what brought me back to reality was the press of her as she hugged me tightly. I didn't care how she had gotten here, I didn't care that she had come from a berg. Nothing seemed to matter anymore.

"What? How?" I breathed. I couldn't help but smile as I saw Atohi climb from the Berg, it was overwhelming to see everything happening so quickly. Before I could process anything else, a huge whirring noise came from behind us. Turning around, I could see Wicked bergs closing in on us from the mountains.

"We gotta go!" Daniel yelled, running towards the berg. Me, Minho, Teresa and the others followed.

We got the berg as the doors of the berg began to close. The Wicked berg scraped the ground before lifting back into the air to pursue us, I had an uneasy feeling in my stomach, this was it. Whether or not we made it to the safe haven depended on now, if I was supposed to die, it would happen on this berg...

Daniel's POV

The berg was full of people I didn't recognise. I stood by the doors with the others only because there was simply no space for us. Atohi was pacing around, muttering that we needed to hurry.

"How long have we been travelling since Venice?" Teresa asks, worried. I had no idea what she meant by 'Venice' but I decided her trip to Southern European cities was a conversation for another time. Atohi sighs.

"A day." He replied sadly. My brain rattled, I remembered hearing from Brenda about how the transition day was tomorrow- she told me that yesterday which meant...

"We're not going to make it!" I said, peering out the small window at the back of the berg- the window was no bigger than a dinner plate and was thankfully bulletproof. I could see three Wicked bergs coming in close, behind them was a thick grey front, giving us about 20 minutes before a severe storm.

It seemed the Wicked bergs had just noticed the cloud behind them as they spread out like motorbikes around an important car, two bergs coming around the sides to encase us and one at the back. The only way we can get away from them now is the rise.

"They're going to overtake us, we need to gain altitude!" Thomas read my mind. He was a lot better at turning his natural instincts into direct orders. A born leader. Atohi looked at the cockpit then nodded back to Thomas before running to meet with the pilots.

The nose of the berg dipped up, sending everyone closer to the back, which wasn't nice since people were crushing me into a fire extinguisher. Not cool. Harriet stood near the cockpit, holding herself, her eyes were wide.

I didn't want to think about what had happened when they were both taken, but the look on Harriet's face was hard to miss. It just gave me a stronger reason to make sure I got us to the safe haven.

"Atohi! We need to fight them! Why are we leading them to the safe Haven? There is no way we'll get in if we have the whole of Wicked's military power flying behind us!" Minho shouts. I had to admit he had a point. I just wish he hadn't triggered the most stupid thing I've ever seen Thomas do.

Thomas spun on his heels and pressed the opening button with the heel of his hand and pulled Teresa away from the door and into the safety of the main body of the berg. The doors cranked lower, the hot wind pulled at Thomas' shirt and tousled his hair. He looked at the bergs with wild rage.

He turned away from the doors and locked eyes with Atohi who was now standing a few feet away.

"Where're your explosives?" Thomas asks casually. He was used to this sort of stuff now, he was no longer a scared teenage boy who ran the maze. He was just a guy wanting revenge on the people who wronged him.

Atohi nodded as he understood. I must have missed something because, in the blink of an eye, Thomas held a long weapon that resembled a rocket launcher. Oh, wait...it was a rocket launcher.

Despite the probability of it weighing the same as a sofa, he leaned it on his shoulder and took aim. The most horrible noise came from it as the rocket soared through the clouded air like an eagle. I watched as it split into three and took its designated path towards the enemy crafts.

There was a heavy silence when the rockets hit, a couple seconds went by where nothing happened. Thomas stepped forward onto the ramp, letting the launcher slack on his arm. Then the sky went red.

Teresa's POV

I watched the cloud of smoke and fire engulf Thomas completely. I was vaguely aware of myself screaming, but it was cut short as the heat burned the inside of my mouth.

I ran onto the ramp, desperate to find Thomas. I could see brown hair through the wisps of orange clouds, sparks of flames bouncing through the air. He seemed to just be standing there, watching as the bergs detonated- killing everyone inside.

"Thomas!" I shouted, he looked over, his eyes were glowing in a way I had never seen them. It was actually scary, to see him look so exhilarated from doing what he had just done. He turned around and stumbled back into the berg. I followed.

"Close the doors!" Thomas shouts. I look outside in time to see a propeller slicing its way towards us. I realised at the moment that Thomas was still on the verge of the ramp, it was going to hit him.

"Everyone duck!" I screamed, hitting the floor. I watched as people did the same, I looked at Thomas in time to see him fly backwards with the impact...
