I stroll towards him.
"Don't think for a second I don't know you are hiding something." My voice breaks. I see Minho step towards us.
"Thomas, you don't know that for sure." He says to me, I don't even look at him, I stare at Aris like if I look away, he will be gone in a second. Just like her.
"I think he knows who these people are and I think he knows where they took the bodies, Teresa and our door," I shout, pointing to Aris, he seems shocked, looking at the others for an explanation. Minho clears his throat
"Do you know where Teresa is or not?" He says in an almost bored voice. Of course, Aris shakes his head, why would he admit it now?"I don't believe a single word this guy is saying, Minho. You've gotta trust me on this." My voice sounds desperate. I am desperate. Minho looks at Aris thoughtfully, searching his face for deceit.
Everything goes dark. I know this is a trick, nothing can make a room feel this empty. I felt like my eyes were shut when they weren't, that's how suddenly dark it was.
"You guys there?" I shout, reaching out in the hope of finding someone.
"We're all here dude, what the hell is happening?" Frypan mumbles from my left. Thank god they haven't taken anyone else. I walk towards Frypan's voice.
"Wow, did anyone hear that?" Someone says I can't recognise their voice. I turn back to where I think the person is.
"What is it, Jack?" Newt replies. Jack? I still haven't had the chance to talk to him.
"A chair, sliding back. I'm not joking." He whispers, his voice trembling. I still can't see anything, the abyss refusing to show even the slightest shadows of movement. Everything seems to get colder, a thick, almost damp atmosphere with nothing but our quick breaths for a reminder we weren't floating in space.
"Ok, everyone shut it, listen carefully." That's Minho, has to be. I can almost picture him with his arms crossed, instinctively taking the lead. Everything fell even more silent, breaths being purposely cut short in an attempt to track another, somebody unwelcomed.
Sure enough, the wood of a chair scraped against the floor, whoever it was wasn't scared of being noticed.
"Who the hell are you?" Minho shouts. his footsteps walking aimlessly towards the sound of the chair. At first, no answer.
"Please take a seat on the floor." The mysterious person says. I instantly recognise the voice, it was the man from before, the one who took her.
"Do what he says, guys," I say, sitting down. The sounds of thumps mean others are obeying and sitting down.
"Minho, would you please join the others and sit down." The man says. How does the man know Minho hasn't sat down?
"How the hell do you know my name? How the hell do you know I'm standing?" Minho yells, but another thump tells me he has sat down. The man yawns from only metres away from me, he's up and moving. Getting closer to us.
The light goes back on. I dig my fists into my eyes for the second time, taking in the white beams. Grunts fill the room as our eyes adjust.
He stands centimetres in front of me, I see his shins first, close to touching my knees. I look up, he's gotta be at least six foot. Nobody moves, or talks.
"I'm sure you have a few questions. I have been ordered to take only three. Choose wisely." He says, returning to his desk which has reappeared back in the corner of the room.
"Where have you taken her?" I blurt out before giving anyone else a chance to waste our questions. He ignores me, sitting down. He looks up, finding my eyes.
"Please identify with names." He says, he sounds bored, like we have no right to ask where she is.
"Teresa you shuckface, we haven't exactly been given any other chicks to make it a difficult question," Minho shouts from next to me, rolling his eyes in disgust. The man nods.
"Subject A1 has been moved to the second group of variables." He says, intertwining his fingers. I look over at Minho who has his eyebrows raised. I wish we had more than three questions.
"Is she hurt?" Minho asks, taking the second question. The man shakes his head. She's alright.
"Choose this last question wisely." He answers. I look behind me for anyone who has a question. I can't pinpoint anything that stands out from the tornado of questions I have. Frypan claps.
"I think we should ask him about those zombie things." He says, Newt shakes his head.
"Ask about the bodies." Newt says. Aris clears his throat.
"Ask why I was put here." He says. Everyone turns to look at him, including me. He has us all intrigued. I turn back to the man.
"Why is Aris here?" I ask. He looks up, studying all our faces. A part of him looks sympathetic. His eyes on me once again.
"Subject B1 is here to replace Subject A1. That's your final answer." He says. My heart sinks with confusion, hurt and anger. Aris has replaced Teresa? You can't just replace her, it doesn't work like that.
"What are you talking about?" I shout, standing up. He takes no notice of me.
"It's time to get serious. We have lots to discuss." The man says.
"What about?" Newt shouts from behind me.
"Phase two. "
