Teresa's POV
Despite the fact I was away from my friends and about to be taken away to minor labs to be tested on. The only thing that was going through my mind was that I needed to find out who had saved me. I needed to help them just like they had helped me.
I turned and tried to find someone in the crowd I recognised, my first instincts were looking for Thomas, Daniel, Minho and the others. I looked into the distance to find someone defending Harriet. I recognised the paint on their bodies. The feathers in their hair dancing as they moved to block the blows intended for Harriet.
"Atohi!" I yelled, running towards him. He turned and smiled like he was casually inviting an old friend to his home for dinner. I had never been so happy to see anyone in my memories of life. Atohi gave off a comforting, safe vibe.
"I have come to get you to the Right Arm," he says when I get close enough, he sounded triumphant which confused me as we were terribly out-numbered. I decided to at least try and be optimistic.
"Great! How do we get out of here?" I shouted back, Harriet coming closer to listen in, Atohi had that sort of glint in his eyes that told me he had a plan, a really awesome plan that would get us all out of here alive.
"My tribe, we have come to save the immunes. We have taken over the 7 infamous international trafficking bergs whilst on their flight path to Wicked, you must come now," he says. He spins around to face the far door and cups his mouth before yelling in another language.
Now, I had seen some things, I guess more than the average teenager. However, nothing compares to the sight I just saw. As soon as the words escaped Atohi's lips, the whole room erupted in red smoke as Native American's burst through every door with bows and arrows.
It was so strange to see Native American's in Europe, it was nice to see that they still had the culture they had always had, I felt like I was in the 18th century.
"Come on, my men won't be able to hold them for long!" Atohi shouted, gathering immunes from all around us. I followed him whilst making a promise to myself to learn more about his tribe. It was hard to see through the smoke that fogged up the vision in front of me.
I felt the burn of heat as we stepped outside onto cobble paths. I had to grab Harriet to stop her falling into the narrow ditch in front of us. The ditch was like a huge open pipe that ran right through the centre of the street. As soon as I tried to picture it with water, I knew where we were. Venice.
"What is the flare?" I asked nobody in particular. Nobody answered. Atohi seemed to be the only person who wasn't really fazed by the sight of precious Venice without its canals.
"Come on!" I heard a boy shout from up the street, looking over I realised I was the only one left. Everyone else was running down the street as they followed Atohi. I chased to catch up with the boy I had recognised from the lineup I was forced to join back inside.
"It has completely destroyed the world!" I choked, tears welling in my eyes. The boy seemed uncomfortable with the sights around us like he was trying to push back a horrible memory. We jogged along in silence.
"I used to live here...Not this street in particular, but here...In Venice," he said suddenly. His lips tightened into a straight line. I looked around me, I knew Venice and I knew what it used to look like. The windows in the houses were boarded up, the doors trapped by sandbags that had broken and were now pouring into the cracks on the cobbles.
The canal boats were now just scraps of mossy wood, the colour in the houses were dulled, probably from weather damage, which gave off the impression the sun flares happened quite suddenly. Venice was the remnants of an unprepared city.
"Nobody was prepared for what happened," the boy spoke miserably, I couldn't help but feel sorry for him but all I could think of was how he answered my silent thoughts.
"How did you know that's what I was thinking?" I asked, my voice a squeak. His eyes smiled, we were getting closer to the group.
"How could you not think of that? What were boarded up windows and sandbags going to protect them from? They didn't stand a chance," he replied. The way he was talking, he sounded like he had seen the whole thing happen. I don't think he was ever taken by Wicked.
Before I could ask him if he was ever a victim of a maze, the cracking sound of bullets split through the air, bouncing off the cramped houses like a speaker. I dared to turn around and saw that the traffickers had gotten out.
"Run?" I asked sarcastically. He nodded and we picked up speed. Thankfully, everyone else had also sped up. I just hoped we were near where Atohi was taking us. We turned a corner into St. Mark's Square where a berg was positioned.
Atohi was already at the foot of it, motioning everyone in. I jumped up onto the metal platform before running inside. There was no time for strapping in so I just sat on the floor and held onto an emergency strap hanging from the roof.
Atohi jumped in last and pulled a lever on the left which made the door slowly begin closing. I panicked as I thought about the tribe who were left behind with bows and arrows.
"What about your other tribe members, Atohi!?" I shouted. He turned and smiled like I knew absolutely nothing.
"They are heading South to another of the 7 internationals, we are also picking up your friends,"
