Another homecoming, I won't be going to again. It wasn't hard to miss with the million posters plastered against the walls. I watched as the halls buzzed with people discussing homecoming. What they were going to wear, where they were going to dinner, who was taking them. I had none of that and sighed.
I went to class thinking about what I would be doing. I would be wearing sweats, probably eating a TV dinner since Mom would be working and cleaning my room, which I usually did every homecoming. Pretty sad, right? Maybe I could find a decent movie to watch.
I just wanted this day and weekend over as fast as I could so it wouldn't be a constant reminder that I would be sitting home once again while everyone was enjoying homecoming.
After school, I walked in and up to my room. Time to plan out what I would be doing at home. I opened the door to find a white box with a red ribbon sitting up on my bed. I walked over and there was a note attached to it.
'You're not staying home this year. A car will pick you up promptly at seven. Be ready.'
I opened the box and inside laid the most beautiful red dress I had ever seen. It had silky material to it and underneath was matched shoes. Guess there's no getting out of this one. Although, my inner self is squealing with delight. I really need to silence her.
*******
The next day I got ready with the help of Mom. Apparently, Mom decided to take the night off to help me. I didn't understand why. That woman is always working. She fixed my hair and helped me with my makeup, while I got dressed in the dress I had gotten. Around seven there was a knock at the door. She opened it to find a limo out front and the driver standing at the door.
"Whoa," I said.
"Miss King?"
"Yes," I answered.
"I'm here to pick you up," the driver said.
I looked at Mom who was acting all giddy. Okay, she is acting weirder than usual. I walked out of the house and over to the limo door and the driver opened it. I climbed inside and he promptly shut it.
Inside was a dozen red roses and a wrist corsage with a note.
'The flowers are for you. I hope you love them.'
My inner self was bouncing around like a freaking maniac. I put on the wrist corsage and the driver drove me to homecoming. Once we arrived he opened the door and I thanked him.
I walked up to the school and inside. The music was blaring and homecoming was in full swing. I looked around as I walked around. I stood there for a few minutes before someone said, "Need a date?"
I turned around to see Braydon and looked at him before he grabbed my hand and led me onto the dance floor. Well, drag me onto the floor. He pulled me to him and started to lead me in a dance. I followed along with him as we danced. He was quick and graceful and apparently so was I.
We danced and people cleared the floor to give us a room. He twists and turns me as we dance never letting go of my hand. We kept step with each other as our shoes hit the floor with a thumping sound. He spun me around, still moving with me, ending with a dip.
People clapped and cheered as he pulled me up to him. I looked around and started to laugh.
"Molly," Braydon started to say.
I cut him off by wrapping my arms around him and crushing my lips into his. He wrapped his arms around my back and kissed me back.
We pulled back, catching our breath and he said, "I never accepted the bet." I looked at him, "It wasn't right and I wanted no part of it. I'm sorry you thought I did."
