I made my way uneasily through the crowded halls, everything was so clustered. Well, at least that’s how it felt to me. Maybe it was the stale scent of overused cologne or maybe it was the nagging stench of stress, anxiety and hormones which covered every crack and crevice of this place. I couldn’t help but hate how this school made me feel at times.
It was just too much, too many people to please, to many roles to fulfill. Too many fakes.

I had just gotten here and already I wished the day could be over by now. Enough complaining I guess, anyway. People here aren’t much different to any other school, we had our prep squad, our jocks, our nerds, our geeks, our fashionistas and our bullies; and here comes mine now, right on cue. “Hey there short stuff, how’s the classes going?” Jason chuckled as he pushed me up against the lockers.

“The periods haven’t started yet dipstick,” I sighed rolling my eyes at him as his expression immediately changed. Yeah here it comes again, I braced myself for impact.

I wasn’t scared of him anymore but that didn’t mean I could fight back. Jason’s been bulling me for the better part of high school, basically since I’ve started here. “What was that? The smart ass being a smart ass again?” he asked flicking my head as I pushed his hand away. The bell went off. “I’ve got to go I can’t be late for class,” I mumbled walking away pushing past him as he pulled my arm back gripping it tightly, throwing me against the lockers again as everyone started heading off to their classes. This was what he loved. If everyone was in their classes he could do his worst without having anyone stop him, or call a teacher. Soon the halls were empty and I knew then I was screwed and I’d probably have to remain absent for a few days again, so no one would see the bruises.

“You’re not going anywhere bitch,” he smirked as I furrowed my eyebrows and he threw a fist to my stomach, causing me to cough in an effort to regain my breath. A yelp escaped my mouth as his hand made contact with my face, slapping me so hard the zing didn’t stop for a few minutes. “Leave me the fuck alone!” I growled shoving him back, feeling my rage now starting to build up. “Or what short stuff?!” he argued pinning my hands to the lockers as he kicked my shins causing me to flinch.

“-Or I turn the situation around and you’ll be the one against the lockers,”
Both Jason and I turned our attention to the very familiar voice, the fuck did he just come from? I thought, don’t get me wrong I was thankful but this was like escaping a Warthog and being thrown in a cage with a Coyote. I stared over at Harry and his pack of imbeciles as they stood ready for action, Niall already cracking his knuckles at the opportunity to knock out another victim. They were the school’s infamous ‘bad boys’. They didn’t have the name for nothing though, they’ve earned it. They’re always late for class but their grades are good enough for it, they’re the only people no one in this school or out of it would dare cross, everyone’s seen their works on the news, in person and if you were unlucky enough; experienced it.

“Why the hell is he still standing there? Did he not just hear me?” Harry asked sarcastically to his boys as they chuckled shaking their heads. “Move it, or stay. Either way it’ll be fun for me…” Niall smiled stepping forward as Liam was already moving towards Jason with his switch blade glistening in the dim light which reflected against it, Niall had the face of an angel, but he was a real dark horse. Always approached his victims with the sweetest, child-like face and most harmless smile anyone could bare before beating the shit out of them, he wasn’t ever afraid of a fight. Everyone knew that.

“You were lucky this time short stuff…” Jason mumbled dropping my hands in defeat, his plans now utterly ruined as he walked off quickly, the awkwardness and confusion must have been way too obvious because I had Harry and his entire pack laughing at me. “I…” I sighed clearing my throat, “…Why did you do that?” I asked hesitantly with a raised eyebrow. “Don’t ask questions, get to class before you’re late. Don’t go thinking I care, alright little girl?” he mumbled coldly as they moved me aside walking past me to wherever they were causing trouble next. This day was going to be fucking amazing. Ha, yeah right.
