   Will watched his mother hang clothes on the line. "Mommy?" "Yes, dear." Will smiled sweetly. "Can I go play in the back?" His mother glanced at him and sighed. She thought for a moment, then returned to the clothes. "Sure, honey. Just stay out of the woods, please. Remember the story about the last boy who went in there?" Will turned grim in respect for the boy who was never seen again. "Yes, mommy." His mother nodded. "Okay, then. Go on now." Will returned to his happy state. He giggled as he ran out back, excited to be so close to the woods he loved.

Will gazed at the woods in wonder. He wanted to go explore them to his heart's content. It tempted him strongly. 'Maybe a little peak won't hurt...' He grinned and ran to the edge of the woods. He looked around to see if anyone was watching. No one. He grinned again and ran into the woods. He ran as far as he could run. Once he found a clearing, he dove onto the ground, giggling. "It so pretty!" He studied the leaves of the trees. Fascinated with the green around him, he stood up and did a 360 degree turn, observing the scenery. He laughed and sat down on the grass.
  
   "Now I could see why the boy never came back. This place is amazing!" "It sure is." Will turned around. A horned humanoid stood on all fours behind him. "... Are you a puppy?" The beast laughed. "No, I'm not a puppy. Can puppies talk?" Will shook his head. The beast walked over to him. Will noticed that the exposed arms and legs were black. The beast had claws that were at least 3 inches long. His ears reminded Will of that of a bull or a deer. What really caught his attention was the small flame at the top of his tail. The beast stopped right in front of him. "What's your name?" Will hesitated. "I-It's Will." The beast smiled. "I've seen you before. You seem to like it here, yes?" Will nodded. "Would you like to stay here?" Will thought for a moment, then nodded again. The beast grinned. "You can stay with me..." Will's eyes lit up. "Really?" The beast nodded. Will grinned. "I want to!" The beast curled up around him. "The company will be appreciated." Will hesitantly laid a hand on the beast's back. "Can you purr?" The beast looked at him. "Can I purr?" Will nodded. The beast rolled his eyes then closed them. Will ran his hand along the beast's spine with just the right pressure. Sure enough, he started purring. Will giggled and continued massaging the beast's back. "Hey, puppy?" "I'm not a puppy." "Can we cuddle a lot?" The beast snorted. "Yeah, sure."
