Mabel ran up to her grunkle and yelled, "Can I go see the musician?!" Dipper, who followed her in, shook his head. "Magician, Mabel. Not musician." Mabel looked at him. "What's the difference?," she asked, looking genuinely confused. Dipper sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Get a dictionary," he said, "I can't keep telling you the difference between words forever." Mabel brushed him off and looked back at her grunkle. "Can I go? Please?" Stan patted her on the head. "Sure, kiddo. 'Ey, and bring your brother along with you. He needs to get out once in a while." Mabel grinned and grabbed Dipper's arm, pulling him out of the shack and all the way into town.
Dipper sat in the foldable chair and huffed, hugging his knees to his chest. He honestly didn't want to be here. So what if this guy could perform a few tricks? They're not real. He's seen real magic before, so what would make him want to watch this? His sister, however, could barely sit due to her excitement. He sighed. How could she still be so happy about everything? The show was starting, so Dipper rested his head on his knees and watched with a dull expression. Suddenly, a triangle of fire appeared, and an albino walked into the middle of it. He seemed to wince a little at the brightness, but the fire was darker than a normal flame, so it didn't bother in as much. Dipper quickly recognized black magic and instantly started to feel nervous. He looked over at Mabel, but she was grinning and wiggling around excitedly, not noticing the key signs of necromancy. He decided to continue watching.
Finally, the show was drawing to a close. There was just one last trick to perform. One that involved a volunteer assistant. Dipper started to get weary of the albino. What was he going to do to the volunteer. Mabel jumped up and raised her hand, wanting a chance to be on the stage. Others did the same, and Dipper curled in on himself just a little bit more. All of a sudden, a small cat-like creature made up of the flames from earlier floated threw the crowd. 'I guess this thing's gonna choose the assistant.' It floated around, occasionally touching some people, but mainly ignoring them. It swirled around Mabel's head, then came over to him and sat on his head. The magician, William was what he called himself, ordered everyone to sit down. Once they were all in their seats, he asked Dipper to come up onto the stage. Dipper felt a weird feeling when he looked up into the albino, but had no idea what it was or why he felt it. He hesitantly made his way up there and stood near he stairs. Will beckoned him forward with a subtle hand gesture no one else could see, but he didn't move. He was given a weird, almost hurt look, and he stepped forward out of guilt. The magician gave him a small smile and looked into the crowd. "Who here knows how bonds work?" Dipper froze. Mabel raised her hand immediately, and Will asked her to explain it to the crowd. "In magical terms, to make a bond with someone is to mend some of your soul together with another person's. It creates a grater feeling of trust, love, and loyalty between the two people. However, if the two people do not get along, or are not compatible, then the bond may become corrupted, and they'll go through a lot of love/hate emotions that ultimately result in their mental states falling apart." Dipper internally laughed. She memorized the whole book that he gave her on bonds and took that explanation straight out of one of the passages. Will smiled and nodded, glancing at Dipper. "The little creature you saw floating around was searching for the most compatible person for me. It is up to hm whether he wants to do a minor bond, fair bond, or... 'mate' bond. Bonds can be upgraded over time, but they can't be downgraded. Necromancy can be used to break the bond, but it is very painful and causes serious detachment." Dipper let down his guard, relieved that he had a choice. Will came closer to him and asked, "What would you like?," in a hushed voice. Dipper bit his lip and thought for a moment. 'I don't know him, but... I don't know. I wish I knew what this feeling is supposed to be... A minor bond is dangerous because that's how most people's bonds get corrupted. They can drift apart in that stage. I'll do the fair bond, since I feel oddly safe with this option.' "I-I'll do the fair bond..." Will's eyes portrayed a weird form of delight as he smiled softly. Dipper's unknown emotion started to feel stronger. Dipper zoned out as Will talked with the crowd. "Dipper?" Dipper jumped and looked at Will, wondering how the magician came to know his name. "Are you alright?," Will asked, his expression looking a little bit different from before. Dipper nodded and opened his mouth to speak, but clapping caused him to look at he crowd in confusion. He began to notice the weird sensation he felt all over his body. He realized that while he had spaced out, Will had performed the ritual for the bonding ceremony. The thing is, he was thinking about what would happen if he chose the mate bond. The ritual requires them both thinking about the same bond. If they aren't, the more advanced magic-user's thoughts would determine it. He remembered this and calmed. Little did he know that during the ceremony, Will's mind kept drifting to the same topic he was thinking about.
Will felt that the bond wasn't exactly the right one, and quickly checked on Dipper. Finally, he asked if he had been focused on the thought of the fair bond. His expression was enough to make Will realize what had happened. Before he could inform Dipper of the situation, the crowd started to applaud, seeing something that Will did not. He liked at Dipper again and saw that he had a small, black, upside-down triangle marking on the palm of his hand and the back of his neck. Will checked the back of his hand and saw a black pine tree. 'Oh boy..,' he thought to himself. He closed up the show and started telling Dipper what went wrong. Dipper groaned and gazed at his palm. "A-At least I can learn to love you," he said after a while, earning a surprised look from Will. "I..." Dipper searched for Mabel in the crowd of people leaving. As he did this, Will thought for a moment, then kissed Dipper's cheek. Immediately for, he started apologizing. "Th-The bond made me want—" "It's fine. I— Uh... Needed that, to be honest. This bond's making me want as much physical contact from you as possible. I... Jeez... Can I come to your house for a bit. Will smiled. "Certainly! O-Oops, sorry... Heheh... Yeah, you can come over. Maybe we can work a few things out...?" Dipper nodded, finally spotting his sister coming over to them. "Hey broseph! I can see that your bond was unintentionally stronger than you initially wanted..." Dipper blushed, and Will wrapped an arm around his waist, surprising him. "I hope this is okay...?," he whispered, it sounding like a question more towards the end. Dipper nodded. "Y-Yeah, it's actually really nice. Although that weird sensation it's giving me is kinda freaking me out." Mabel grinned. "It's already taking affect! So cute!," she squealed. "I'm guessing you two want to spend some time alone at Jack Frost's house?" "What?," Will asked. "You look like Jack Frost from that Rise of the Guardians movie!" Dipper snorted. "Nice, Mabel. S-See ya', I'm staying with Will for a little bit." Mabel wiggled her eyebrows. "As long as one of you doesn't end up magically pregnant, I'll be okay with this relationship!" She ran off before Dipper could throw one of his little shortie-tantrums.
