***Authors note*** I wanted to thank y'all those still reading for hanging in between these long update periods. I write every chance I get but with 5 kiddos can be a challenge. But I wanted to let y'all know that earlier in the story when Joss is telling David of her past after he awards....she mentions her cousin who previously had the name of sarah. Well I wanted to make a change to that name. Her name will be Savannah now....trust me this is a good thing. I'm not telling the details of why just yet! But just be aware of the change!! Thanks again!! ******
"Pssst. Y'all still awake?" A whisper called out in the doorway.
"I am. She's out. What's going on?" I asked as Amy crept her way in the room.
"Nothing. Everything's fine. I just wanted to check in and see how she was doing is all."
"She's ok I believe. She may not feel so well in the morning."
"To be expected."
"Yeah..."
"Did she happen to tell you anything?" She asked coming in a little closer to the bed.
"Yeah. She did. Never knew the truth could hurt much."
"What do you mean?" A puzzled look crossed her face as she crossed her arms across her chest.
"I just do not understand how someone as wonderful as she is have such a shitty life, for a lack of a better word, and not want more for her future. She has a chance to have something amazing and she's just going to toss it all away over what her life has been."
"Did she say that?"
"Pretty much."
"David I don't think..."
"Why did you not tell me about rehab?" I cut her off.
"Excuse me?" She asked taken back by my question.
"You heard me. Why did you not tell me?"
"I'm sorry. That's not my place to tell you about her past." She informed full of attitude. "Why do you even care about that?"
"I don't! That's just it! I don't care that she's been to rehab but a heads up would have been nice so I could have watched her closer. Not offered her alcohol and what not. I've been enabling her. She told me once before that she had gotten careless before but I wasn't aware it was that bad."
"David you can't blame yourself, you didn't know. Ok?"
"No, but you did." I simply stated the truth knocking her back a bit.
We stood in an awkward silence for a few moments before she finally said "You know....I've always heard this saying...something that my grandpa use to tell my dad after my mom left and he started seeing this other woman. He use to say, "do you know how safe a woman has to feel to fall asleep in your arms? That if you find yourself there, with her listening to your heartbeat....know that everything is going to be ok.'
So take it for what it is but she loves you whether you see it or not .... no matter what she tells you. " she nodded towards Joss.I took her words in carefully then looked down to Joss who was asleep against my chest my arms around her. I carefully brushed a stray hair away from her face when my eye caught sight something....
"What is this?" I asked brushing her hair back a little more careful not to disturb her.
"What? What is it?" Amy asked leaning over to see what I was looking at.
