I saw Joseph sitting in the corner booth in the very dimly lit dive bar. Old man winter had been teasing with what was to come and I quickly shook out my coat to free itself from the wet snow currently falling before making my way over."Hey. Make it in ok?" He asked as I slid into the opposite side getting comfortable lighting a cigarette.
"I did. Not too bad.....yet. I just hope it holds off until I can make it back out."
"It should. This will not take too long."
"Have good news for me I hope?"
"I am a man of my word."
I chuckled under my breath "Hardly, but what you have for me."
He cleared his throat before beginning " The letter came from a prison in Arkansas. After doing some digging, Joslyn and Savannah have a family member there. The letter was from him."
"I see."
"Why would he be after Joslyn?" Curiosity graced his face.
"Long story that your fiancé should inform you of, but let's just say this is a mutual problem on both of our ends that needs to be taken care of. Permanently."
"Say no more. I'll handle it..." he trailed off.
"Once it is handled, your secret will be all but forgotten. I have to ask though...how are you going to manage a secret family and a new fiancé?"
"Look, I know it looks bad right now, I just have so much to loose..."
"I do not need the details, but I will warn you...if this gets out and Joslyn hears of it...you will be digging your own grave and that is not a threat."
"I could say the same to you if she found out about you knowing."
"Fair enough, but if you handle this shit and then handle YOUR shit...all is well that ends well. Correct? I do believe you will be compensated nicely enough." I reminded putting out my finished cigarette looking directly at him.
"I said I would handle it." He barked.
"Good. Let me know when it is done." I quickly got up putting my coat back on before exiting the bar.
It was dark out even though it was still fairly early. I loved this time of year. The weather just matched my soul. It was barely after 7 but I knew Joss would be expecting me home soon. We had plans to go out for dinner, but the weather had other plans. I had called earlier to inform I would pick dinner up after my "meeting" and bring it home. I did not want her out and about unless she had to be.
"Hey babe! You made it. I was beginning to get a little worried." She informed as she met me at the front door.
"No need to worry my love. I got us some dinner. I hope you are hungry." I held up the to go bag in my left hand wrapping her up close to me with me right, kissing the top of her head. "How are my girls?"
"We are good. Hungry and missed you of course." She smiled sweetly leading the way back to the kitchen. "It really is starting to come down out there." She informed looking out of the window as I set out our dinner.
"Yes ma'am it is. I hope we get snowed in together tomorrow." I said wrapping my arms around her waist from behind rubbing her belly.
"Me too. That would be nice. We could finish getting everything ready and set up for baby girl. Not too much longer."
"I know. I am beyond ready. This pregnancy has really flown by. I have to admit, I'm going to miss seeing you like this."
"Really? I have been blessed with a good pregnancy but I am ready to have my own body back."
