Chapter 40 - The War, Sasuke & Itachi

Mai's POV

 I look at Sasuke ahead of me. This boy is slowly... Slowly becoming like him. 

I frown just thinking about it.

The fact that he's slowly becoming like him. And I'm not doing anything to stop him... It feels like I'm letting this happen once again... But I have to let him go what path he wants. He have to learn and decide for himself...

We have passed by 2 towns now. They were both deserted. The war must have caused this.

It's sad seeing places like this... it brings back memories...

"Wait!! Is that you, Itachi?!" Sasuke suddenly shouted.

I look in front, ahead of Sasuke. Surely enough, I saw Itachi there.

Itachi look behind and stopped.

"Itachi.." Sasuke said, stopping as well.

"Itachi, How's everything so far?" I ask him.

"Mai-san, the war has started..." Itachi said.

I nod.

"Yeah, I know. Sasuke told me" I said.

"Where were you? Why did you join Konoha?!" Sasuke said.

We both look at him.

"I got no time to talk, Need to complete my mission" Itachi said as he begin jumping from tree to tree.

"I don't care! I have lot's of questions I have to ask you!!" Sasuke said, following him.

"You're as impatient as always" Itachi said.

I begin chasing after them as well.

"You're the one who said to find you when I have the same eyes as you! Now you're running away from me?! Are you running away from me out of guilt for being a liar?! Don't you have courage to tell me the truth?! I know every single thing about you now! And that is why I will destroy Konoha as well!!" Sasuke said.

I look at them sadly.

"When we fought, I told you that we each live deep in our own fantasy, remember? Your reality might be an illusion. But my truth is real" Itachi said.

"I don't live in a fantasy anymore! I can see through your Genjutsu! I have the same eyes as you now!" Sasuke said.

I saw Itachi glance back at him.

"I've heard what happen to you from many people. You have change" Itachi said.

"NO! You changed me!! I was suppose to be dead! You were suppose to kill me with our parents! Why didn't you kill me?!" Sasuke said.

Itachi didn't answer.

"What is so different with our parents and me? Why is it only me?!" Sasuke said.

"Because you didn't do anything. You didn't know what our clan has done. You were just a small child. Did you think I did it just for you? I wanted you to grow up and judge me. I deserve to be dealt by only an Uchiha. I used your hatred... and I was wrong. The hatred made you go bad, made you a criminal. Even though all I wanted was for you to walk the right path. Before I almost died, I tried leading you back to the right path" Itachi said.

"You wanted me to follow your direction without having my own thought?! I don't care about all those!" Sasuke said.

"You're right. You have to decide your own journey" Itachi said.

"No matter how much you try to direct me, my eyes can strip away everything now!" Sasuke said.

Itachi chuckled.
