"Sweetheart, got any of the goods?"
You snorted quietly at the nickname the orange haired male gave you. He was your most profitable victim. Candy was the secret to your success.
"You know it. Let's say, err, one hundred gold for twenty five."
"No way! It was fifty gold for twenty last time I checked!"
"Supply and demand, honey, supply and demand."
He grumbled as he got out his sack, seemingly using all his coin to buy the little sugar men he oh so loved to collect. You snickered under your breath at the profit. Maybe now you could afford what you needed to help your sickly mother. It was gullible and obsessed people like Gaius himself that made her recovery so much easier.
"You're gonna make me banckrupt, Sweetheart."
"You want the goods you gotta pay. You know how much the apothecaries cost for the good stuff."
You and gaius go way back, since childhood when eh would, stop by at your family's sugar store as you Calle dit to try and steal. To be honest you ahd a crush on him back in the day so you snuck him something and payed for it with your own allowance your parents so graciously gave you. You chuckled at the memory behind the counter and Gaius seemed to hear it.
"Something up, Sweetheart?"
"Just taking a blast to the past."
You remembered it so clearly. It was before you're dad signed up and died during the Yilsean-Plegian war on the side of both of your homelands against the exalt and before your mother got sick with cancer. Yep, those were the good old days.
"Back when you were sweet on me? Why can't I have the free stuff anymore, sugar?"
You had a tint of blush but hid it with your businesswomanly tactics. But he did catch it, as most theifs do.
"Now we changing the nickname, eh? Well o need the money for Ma."
"Mrs. Cookiehead? What happened to her?"
You tried not to laugh at what he called your mom. That nicknames wss a long story hut can be summed up with her amazingly awesome cookies from their childhood.
"Cancer, that's what."
His face seemed to fall and overcome with worry admit he stuck a sucker form his secret stash in his mouth. You always wondered how he was able to hide all that candy. He the grabbed somethign out of a bag, a bottle. He put it on the counter.
"This May Help with the cure. I'll bring a bottle a day and she has too drink one of these puppies a day, got it?"
You cocked your head, wondering how he knew this.
"Since when did you become a healer?"
"Since I met Libra and Lissa after joining the Yilsean army, that's when."
He always could make anything sarcastic and funny. One thing that drew you to him. Maybe your crush on him was maybe, slightly, ongoing. Yeah, still head over heels for the sweet hearted guy. He could be sweeter than honey when he wanted to be, liek woth the vulenary. That's his nickname. Honey.
"Alright then, see ya tomarrow?"
"Looking forward To it, Sweetheart."
He clicked his tongue at you and snuck into the shadows of the ally nearby the candy shop. It was almost remote and on the verge of being abandoned. But you and me to earn money, for your mother. You grasp the bottle tightly, praying that he ain't lying.
You prayed he still had some of that innocence that he had when they were little, before the accident.
