He Lied

This was it. The day you would attend a wedding. Not yours, but your boyfriend's. To another woman. You were mortified the day you found out that Alec proposed to Lydia Branwell. To honor the Lightwood name of all things. It was devastating especially because he always promised nothing would come between you. But he lied. And it broke you.

When you confronted him it was after you had spent several hours hiding in Jace's quarters. You knew Alec would first check Isabelle's room or ask her for your whereabouts. Jace was the one who told Alec you were in his bedroom because he felt pity for his brother. Didn't keep him from punching Alec first though. Alec tried to explain, but you wouldn't listen.
"It's bad enough you're marrying her, but we were engaged! We were planning our own wedding. You and me! So what now, just forget about it?! Fuck (y/n) and her future, yeah?!"
"We can still have a future."
You gaped at him in shock and fury, and landed another swift punch to his cheek.
"A future, Alec? There is no future for us anymore. I won't be branded the home-wrecker by the world. Fuck you and fuck Lydia. Enjoy your life."

You had stormed out and wanted nothing to do with him. But both Isabelle and Clary convinced you that attending the wedding would be the ultimate kick in the face. So you dressed up nicely, wanting Alec to feel as guilty as possible before you left the Institute for good.

Magnus had arrived with a scowl. He was surprised to get the invitation so soon. After all, you had asked him to help you set up the more magical aspect of your wedding idea. And you were far from finishing touches. Raphael and Simon arrived as well. While Simon couldn't stop talking how ludicrous this all was, Raphael remained stoic and watched you break down even further as the hour came closer. All your friends were there for you yet you felt like the loneliest being in the world. When Alec came to stand by Jace who was his best man his eyes fell on your astounding figure. And the fact you came - it shocked him.

"What - what are you - I thought you wouldn't come."
"Clary and Izzy convinced me. I guess it makes for an interesting goodbye."
Alec frowned when he didn't understand what you meant, but couldn't dwell on it since his mother had ushered him away. Maryse hugged you tightly and kissed your cheek in comfort, but you knew it meant nothing. She was as power hungry as Valentine, just in a different way.

You sat down and the music started. Lydia came walking down the aisle in a beautiful white dress. Your breathing quickened, you felt like you were hyperventilating on the inside. Tears blurred your vision, but you refused to show the pain. When Alec was asked whether he would love and cherish Lydia till the day she dies you lost all will power and stood up. You scrambled past your friends, you needed to get out before you completely caved in.

Someone caught your arm and reeled you around to their chest. So when you smelled Alec's cologne and felt his warmth, you let anger get the best of you and slapped him. He took it bravely though and planted his lips on yours in a messy, hot kiss. All eyes were on you.
"What do you think you're doing?! Don't you have a wedding to attend to?!"
"I know now what I did was wrong. I love you. Truly."
"And you think words will just fix the three years you destroyed?"
"No, no. But please give me a chance to prove I'm still yours."
"Until the next slut comes along to honour the family name with?"

He chuckled and whispered in your ear, "the only slut I want is the one you become in bed," knowing that dirty talk would always calm you down to an extent. Your cheeks flushed crimson as you gazed angrily up at Alec.
"Fine. Only because I love you. But don't think you're off the hook."
"I wouldn't dare, princess. I love you.
"And I love you."
The two of you kissed again and the everyone broke out in cheers and clapping. It made you smile for you had hope in your heart again.
