"Nina Rosario" came a voice from across the room, Benny pulled back from the hug. "I love you Nina", there he'd said something at least. He turned, so he was next to her and then lead her towards the nurse.
She just followed his lead, kind of scared to go in there. Most of all, she didn't want to be separated from Benny. No matter how distant she seemed, she wanted to be as close as ever.
When in the room, the nurse told them what would happen, and then left. Nina sat cross legged on the bed. Benny sat in the chair besides her. It felt odd, just yesterday it was the other way around, Benny in the bed, Nina in the chair. They held each other's hand and never wanted to let go.
After a few minutes of silence, she burst out in quiet, but violent sobs. "I'm sorry, Benny," she cried. He still seemed hurt, in her eyes.
"Nina, don't cry, please. It's fine. I know what your dad said about me is affecting you. You've never gone against him before, and you don't want to go against him, yet you still want me. I know."
She calmed down a bit, but tears still ran down her face. "But I feel like I've hurt you. I've done everything wrong."
"I'm not going to lie, it does hurt a bit, but I know it's not you. It's your dad. He hurt you by talking about me in a negative way, you're not used to wanting to disagree with him. I still love you just as much as I did this morning, if not more."
"I don't know how to stop reacting like I do. Living with my dad has taken its toll, but I hate it. I hate it when I act like that, and I want to get better for you. I don't want to hurt you."
"I know you don't want to hurt me, I don't want to hurt you either. Without this sounding too harsh, as I know he is your dad, I think the more time you spend away from him and the negativity and then more you spend with me the better. Obviously, he's your dad and you still need to see him and your mom. But that just popped into my mind, I hope you understand."
"Mmhm. I'm sorry though. I shouldn't let what he said about you dictate how I treat you. I know who you are, but somehow can't treat you the same and I hate myself for it. I wish I could just treat you right. You deserve something better than this mess that I am."
"We have plenty of time to work on it, and you may think I don't deserve you, and that I deserve more, but I want you. I want you more than anything or anyone Nina, it may have only been 6 days officially but you're the love of my life and I couldn't love anyone else more."
"Okay," she murmured, and finally shut up.
She didn't say anything about how she felt or whether she wanted him. Benny felt she didn't feel the same way. That hurt him a lot. He didn't know what to do. He sat there in silence waiting. Eventually the doctor came in making the situation less awkward.
"Well, Benny, if you could step outside for a moment while we do the x-ray on Nina's wrist?" the doctor asked.
Benny's heart plummeted, but he knew it had to be done and why, it was the same when he had his accident. He slowly stood up and walked out, tears in his eyes.
Nina started to breathe more quickly than before, experiencing the slightest bout of separation anxiety. "It won't hurt a bit," the doctor said, "So if you could calm down a bit, that would be great." She seemed a bit snippy, but Nina didn't really care that much. Nina tried desperately to keep calm, but failed. She wanted Benny back. When the doctor performed the x-ray and allowed Benny back in, Nina was relieved.
He came in and went straight to her side, taking hold of her good hand once again. However, he realized that Nina struggled with the few minutes apart more than he did. He could see it in her face. He rubbed the back of her hand with his thumb in little circles hoping it would relax her.
