106 - Falling Through Time

The following morning Benny and Nina woke up by the river, they stayed there for a few hours sharing many loving and romantic kisses. Usnavi and Benny texted each other giving them updates on where they were. When they left Benny joined Usnavi and Nina went to the salon.

Benny and Usnavi went down to the print store and printed out a large selection of photos for him and Nina, he wasn't just printing random photos for her though, he had something special planned. They brought the birth control pills for Nina and a few other things he needed.

Nina had a girls' day hanging out at the salon, she may have spilled a few beans about the sex she and Benny had had just a few days before. Nina and Vanessa went into the city themselves and Nina brought Benny a special gift with some of the money she found in her safe. Overall it was a successful day for both of them.

Because Andrew thankfully gave them the first few months' rent free of charge. Which allowed Benny the time to find a new job, without the stress of figuring out how to pay for the first few months. They moved all the furniture from Benny's old place into the new apartment and said goodbye, returning all three keys to David. They brought more furniture and accessories for the apartment with some of the money Nina had. By the end of the weekend they had completely unpacked everything and were happy with the results of their new home together.

Benny returned to hospital and had another check up on his ribs and was given a complete all clear. Nina also went back and got her cast removed. Thankfully everything heeled perfectly, and she didn't need to have the surgery. Nina requested to keep the cast, which the hospital agreed to, even though they thought it was odd given she was 19, usually it's the sort of thing a child wants to keep. She wanted it for the memories embedded in it, but mostly she wanted to keep the message from Benny. She put it in the safe with all the other treasured items such as her baby blanket.

Benny had spent most of his time in the city looking for jobs. He eventually found a really well-paying job. He hadn't told Nina, but had got himself a job to usher at the Winter Garden Broadway Theatre in the city. Which just happened to be the theatre that Mamma Mia was playing in. He would be starting the week Nina flew back to California and had somehow arranged to get most of her holidays off, so he could spend the little time they had with her. He would also get to spend most days doing what he wanted and then worked evenings. It was also helpful as during the evenings for him, was when Nina would have her afternoon lessons, so it would give him a distraction during what would be the otherwise long lonely evenings.

On the days where Nina wanted a girls' day, he would get the subway down to the city and visit the theatre. He got to meet all the other ushers and staff. He was offered the chance to meet the cast but decided not to, so that he could share the experience with Nina one day.

They didn't do much for Nina's 20th birthday. They went out on another trip to the city together and looked at all the theatres. They had a meal out at another restaurant and overall just enjoyed their time together both knowing they only had one more week together.

Benny continued to refuse to see Kevin, despite him apologizing to Nina. Nothing could take away the pain of what he had said about him, and Benny would never forget those words. He just hoped that he never said words like that again, especially while Nina was away. He was so scared that Kevin would be harsh to him and he would cut again, without Nina there to save him.

Each week became tougher and tougher. As the reality of them being separated became closer and closer. They enjoyed every moment they had together. Things became so good between them after their night by the river, that Nina never felt the need to run away and Benny didn't cut again. Nina still didn't like kissing in front of other people, but she didn't mind the odd little kiss, just nothing long and passionate. She allowed Benny to take more pictures of her, and someone else taking a photo of her and Benny together. She knew Benny wanted them both as memories and as a way of saving himself during any situations where he may feel the urge to cut while she was away. And she had to admit they photos they had taken did look very cute.

FinallyLabour day arrived Benny and Nina both woke up with tears in their eyes as theknowledge of Nina leaving that night sunk in. They had less than 24 hourstogether until the summer was over. Benny took Nina out on a date into the cityso they could admire the theatres together. They headed home together one finaltime on the subway to spend their last few hours together in the comfort oftheir own home.
