Benny glanced at Usnavi as Nina practically dragged them out. "Why is she acting so weird today? This isn't usually like her." He whispered as quietly as possible.
Nina heard him, but just barely. "I'm not acting weirdly," she said, confused.
"You're literally dragging us out Nina. You don't usually do this. Usually you are leaning against my arm with my arm wrapped around you."
"Sorry."
"It's fine, just was a little odd." Benny took a few extra paces so he was level with Nina. He kissed the top of her head as they walked towards the truck.
"I didn't mean to act weirdly. I just wanted to get out of there. Sorry."
"Honestly baby don't worry about it, I've got you here with me, and that's enough. Having you is all I could ever ask for." He kissed her temple as he opened the door for her to climb in. He followed and then sat down beside her. Benny wrapped his arm around Nina and held her close to his body so she was leaning against him. Once again Usnavi got in the front and drove off.
Nina wasn't completely honest, and she didn't like that she hadn't been, but she didn't want to tell Benny. Really, she felt like she'd been choking in there. She hated hospitals and everything about them. From the overly smiley doctors to the beeping heart monitors, to the flatlined ones and family and friends crying over lost loved ones. It was too much to handle for her. But for then, she knew that she had to stay strong for Benny, and partially for Usnavi. He didn't know why she did or how much she hated hospitals. She didn't want them to know. But eventually, she'd have to tell them.
Benny held her close and rubbed is hand up and down her arm. Her muscles felt tense. He assumed it had something to do with why she was acting slightly odd. He decided not to mention it, knowing it would probably upset her. Benny fell asleep again his head falling to Nina's shoulder.
Nina sighed. She knew that she wasn't hiding her predicament well. She rested her head on the top of Benny's head, on top of his fluffy bit of hair.
Usnavi called back, "Are you alright, Nina? You are acting a bit," and trailed off, trying to find the right word to say, "Strangely?"
Nina quietly breathed, "I'm fine. I'm... fine." Usnavi said "Okay," but he was unconvinced.
Benny snuggled up closer to Nina, lifting his legs onto the seat so he was in a bit of a ball. He murmured as he slept, curled up into her side.
The next time Usnavi's car stopped at a light, Nina said, "Look at him. He's such a baby. He's so adorable."
Usnavi looked back and chuckled. "That he is." He took out his phone and quickly snapped a picture of the two of them before Nina said, "God, I love him so much, Green," telling him to go.
Benny stirred a little but didn't wake up. His other arm around fell around her front, resting on his other hand.
Nina sat up a bit and rubbed his head, knowing that he enjoyed when she played with his hair. She sighed and smiled, giggling at how babyish he was when asleep.
45 minutes later as they pulled into the barrio Benny woke up. He realised that he was pretty much lying on Nina. He just looked up to her eyes, smiling. "Did I fall asleep again?"
"Yeah."
"Oh, sorry. I don't know why I'm so tired."
"It's fine. I enjoy watching you sleep."
"Really? Why? What's so enjoyable about watching someone sleeping? And me of all people."
"I dunno. You look so at peace when you sleep. You also act like a baby." She giggled. "You might as well have been sucking your thumb."
