Nina and Benny walked side by side, but Nina had trouble keeping up. She was tired from her outburst earlier and wasn't feeling 100%.
"I'm sorry cariña, you okay?" Benny asked as he began to slow down as he noticed Nina was having to pace to keep up with him. As much as Benny wanted to just stare into his girlfriend's eyes for the entire walk, every few paces he looked around to see if anyone they knew was around. The last thing the two of them wanted was someone finding out about them and spreading rumors.
She said, "I'm okay, just tired. It's been a bit of an emotionally tiring day."
"I understand, let's just get back to the bodega, sit down, have a classic Usnavi Cafe con Leche and talk to the others about everything that's happened. But only if it's alright with you. It's your decision." Benny replied calmly, as he stroked her cheek with his thumb.
"Alright, Benny. That sounds nice," she said. Nina felt herself become drowsy, but didn't mention it, as she didn't want to trouble her boyfriend any further.
As Benny and Nina came closer to the bodega Benny reluctantly brought his arm down to his side and quickly kissed Nina on her temple. "Here we go," he whispered just loud enough for her to hear.
She sleepily nodded. Although she thought that she would feel better if she could nod off, she tried to stay awake.
"Nina," Benny said, pulling them both to a stop.
"You look shattered, your eyes are even at a squinting point. Are you sure you're fine? Wouldn't you be better off getting some sleep? I'll take you home now if need be?" Benny said, rubbing her arm softly, but being careful of his surroundings.
Her eyes betrayed her, but she said, "No, I'll be fine. I want to get this off my chest."
"If you're sure." They kept walking towards the bodega.
