She crawled out of bed, making sure not to wake him. Then, she made her way again to the fire escape, leaning on the bars. The bright sun shone on her now-pale face.
Benny slept soundly, not noticing Nina getting up. He was really worried about her, she refused to accept his help. He didn't show that it hurt him when she refused help. He woke up and again noticed Nina wasn't there beside him. His heart plummeted. He climbed out of bed not bothering to but his shirt back on. He wondered around the apartment then noticed Nina's silhouette coming from the fire escape. He breathed a sigh of relief as he walked out and wrapped his arms around her waist kissing her on the cheek. He didn't say anything, he felt like actions were speaking louder than words between the two of them at the moment.
Nina shivered when he came up behind her. She wasn't expecting it. She turned her head around and said, "Hey handsome," pecking him on the cheek.
"Good Morning gorgeous. Happy 1 week anniversary." He kissed her softly on the lips. "I have some really nice plans for today and I can't wait to take you on a little adventure."
"Alright." She turned her entire body around. "I'm sorry for turning away your help last night. It's just, I feel horrible for taking help, even when I need it horribly." She sighed, knowing that she had dampened the mood.
"It's alright mi dulce koala. I understand. You're going through a tough time right now and you just need some time alone. I'll try to give you a bit more space in the future." He kept his hands round her waist, now resting on her back.
"Okay." Nina said. She stood on her tip toes and kissed him softly on the lips.
Benny returned the kiss softly, he lent over so Nina didn't have to stretch quite so much to meet his lips. He brought one hand up and held her around the back of her head, putting the other further around her back. Holding her close, he felt happy, he knew everything would be okay.
Nina kissed him a couple more times and then pulled back, smiling sweetly at him. "Te amo, mi dulce."
"Yo tambien te amo Nina. You're the greatest thing that's ever happened to me. I love you more than anything."
"Igualmente."
"Umm, translation por favor?"
"Oh, oops. It means equally."
Benny pulled her into another kiss. He had no words. It felt like 2 days ago, after their first proper night together, where they stood on the fire escape watching the sunrise. He started softly, waiting for Nina to kiss back.
She kissed back as soon as she realized that he had kissed her.
Benny gradually increased the intensity of the kisses, making sure not to go too far or fast. Things felt good again. They felt right. Benny closed his eyes holding Nina's body to his chest as he continued to kiss her.
Nina matched his intensity for a little while but then slowed down, gradually pulling away. Though kissing was a way to show love, another way is to just do something together, such as watching a sunrise. That's exactly what she wanted to do. She turned around and pulled his arms around her so that they were wrapped around her and her hands were on his right bicep.
Benny held her close, he rested his head against hers, so they were side by side. The sunrise was multiple shades of yellow, orange and pink and looked absolutely amazing over the city skyline. "El amancer is almost at beautiful as you. It's beautiful, but you're gorgeous and stunning, both inside and out." He smiled enjoying this time together on the fire escape.
She didn't dare oppose him. Instead, she just smiled and continued to look at the sunrise.
As the sun became slightly higher Benny and Nina watched and every so often shared a few kisses. Benny pulled his phone out his pocket. 8:00am. They had already been outside together for over an hour. Benny didn't mind, he was happy and content. He started planning exactly how the day was going to go. It had to be perfect. They would only get today and a one-month anniversary before Nina had to go back to Stanford in August. They would be apart for their 2, 3, 4 and 5 months unless he was able to visit her out west.
