28 - Falling Secrets

"Good morning Benny, were you able to sleep alright with your rib pains?" The nurse asked him.

"Yeah, I slept okay." He half lied, it wasn't his ribs that stopped him sleeping it was everything else in his life.

"We are now able to tell you about your current condition and possible treatment plans."

"Thank you," Benny responded, "but can I wait until my girlfriend, Nina, comes back at 10, she's the one paying so she ought to be here. Also having her support would really help when I find out."

"Of course, how long should her travel here be?"

"About an hour I would think." Benny replied.

"Perfect, do you know if she gave her contact details to reception? Because we need them in order to contact her about coming in and payments."

"Umm, I'm not sure, I know her number though, I can give it to you now." Benny wrote Nina's mobile number on a piece of paper that was on the chair besides him and handed it to the nurse.

"Thank you, I'll be back to check on you in an hour or two."

She walked out the door and Benny grabbed his phone and texted Nina.

'Hey baby girl, how's everything in Washington Heights after last night? Is the power back? I've missed you, can't wait to see you in a few hours. Xoxo Benny'

She was talking happily with Usnavi when she felt her phone buzz. She read the text from Benny and smiled wide, texting back, 'Hey baby, everyone's alright. The power's not back on, but everything seems to be running well. Miss you so much, xoxo Nina'

'Okay, glad everything is going okay, what about the bodega? It looked in a terrible state when I went past last night. How's Sonny? He was crying last night; did he get any sleep? Sorry for all the questions! Xoxo B'

'It's fine, you have a right to be concerned. The bodega's a bit better. Usnavi, Sonny, and I have been taking turns working on fixing it up. The heat is intense though. Love you, xoxo N'

'Okay, that's good then. Come join me, I have air con, it's really nice! Love you more xoxo B'

'I'll see you in a bit! Usnavi and I just have a bit of fixing up to do and then we'll be on our way! Love you the most, xoxo, N'

'Perfect, I'll leave you to your fixing up! See you in just over an hour, let me know when you leave the Barrio and then when you arrive. I gave the nurse your number, so they can contact you if necessary. And how do I respond to that, I love you the mostest? Xoxo B'

Benny put his phone down, and tried to sleep again. Because he was so tired from lack of sleep last night he fell straight asleep. He didn't even notice when he got the text from Nina saying they had left.

Nina helped Usnavi finish up the bodega, grabbed the safe and key, and texted Benny. Then they were on their way.

It was awoken by the whispers of 2 familiar voices. He opened his eyes "Nina!" he called as he held his hand out.

Softly, she said, "Hey Benny," as did Usnavi. "I've missed you loads." She said as she took his hand in hers.

"I've missed you too Nina. Yo, Usnavi. How you doing? Everything okay down at the bodega?"

"Yeah, dude. We got it all fixed up after we got back."

"That's great." He paused for a second. "Wait if you started fixing when you got home from here, does that mean you didn't sleep last night?"
