Benny heard the door open and turned to face it. "Usnavi!" He called. "Get over here and talk. It's hella boring sitting in a hospital bed for hours on end."
"Dude, you've only been in here for an hour and a half. I can see how it'd be boring, but geez, that's not long," Usnavi said, chuckling and sitting down next to Nina. "Also, just so you know, someone's coming to your room. I saw 'em on my way back here."
"It's only been an hour and a half! Gosh it feels like so much longer, I have to be here for another hour." He paused a moment and took in the second half of what Usnavi said. "Wait what, someone else is coming? Who?"
"I dunno, one of the workers. Is there anything else you have to do before you get to go home?"
"Okay, so no one from home. Yeah, I have to wait for an hour, so my body can adjust to not having the brace, then have a few more checks to ensure I'm all okay to go home."
"Ah." Usnavi could see how not having the brace was affecting him. He was taking deeper breaths and he looked less worn down.
"I'm so happy it's finally off, I feel so much lighter now and breathing is so much easier. And I know once I'm out of this bed and I can give Nina a proper hug, I'll feel so much closer to her." He turned his head and smiled at her.
She smiled at him. Usnavi said, "I can tell." Nina stood up and said, "Well, at least I can give you a real hug, for now." She hugged him gently and then sat back down.
Benny already felt closer to her just from what she could give him as he sat in the bed. The doctor then walked in.
"Sorry to interrupt, just wanted to say that all of results from when we first took the brace off are all good so the chances of you being able to go within the hour are much greater now. We will leave you guys alone until quarter to, then we'll come do the final checks. If you need anything the call bell is just by the bed on the wall."
"Okay, thank you." She walked out the room as Benny looked at the clock. "Only 40 minutes, that's not too bad." He said looking back at Nina and Usnavi.
"Not at all," Nina and Usnavi said in unison.
Benny giggled as they both spoke together. "Usnavi, are you okay with us moving in within the next few days? I was planning to start packing up this afternoon once we get home."
"Of course, man. I've readied the room so all there's left to do is move your stuff in."
"Baby, I'm guessing you're okay to help me pack everything up. I don't really want to delay getting out. I kinda want to get it over with before I get emotional."
"Of course."
"Thanks baby. I love you." He took his hand and ran it behind her ear and then continued to stroke her cheek with the pad of his thumb smiling, looking into her sparking eyes.
"Te amo." She smiled at him. "Everything will be alright."
"Yeah, everything will be alright. It will, I'm sure of it now! Thank you for believing in me gorgeous."
"Para siempre."
"Para siempre baby, Always and always."
"Para siempre y para siempre."
Benny stayed quiet, lying down, stroking her cheek, looking into her eyes. He was so in love with her that he couldn't say anything. Despite being in a hospital bed currently, everything else was perfect. Absolutely everything.
After a little while, she put her hand up to where his was on her face and pulled it down, stroking the top of it with her thumb. Her hair fell in front of her face and she let it stay there. The moment was too perfect to ruin by pushing it back, nor did she necessarily want to.
