How to be Visible

Chapter 13

"Rita, we have all been awaiting this moment girl!" Jessica waved me over to the table as I approached them.

"Uh.. and what moment is that?" I asked the twins and Jessica as I pulled up a chair to join them at the table.

"The moment where we all meet for lunch and you tell us how your dinner went." Delphine explained in that 'duh' tune.

"Oh, the dinner. It was okay." I smiled remembering how we just spoke about random things and how Chase was so strong even after his dad's death. It was inspiring. I never would have guessed. Even Jane and Bryan were so happy too. Wow, I mean wow. I couldn't imagine how life would be without hearing my mother scream at my dad, or not seeing my dad ever again. God forbid that.

When we returned home, I was quiet while Mason kept ranting about how he was going to visit Bryan everyday and vice versa. Mom and dad knew. That's why mom's voice was low and sad that day during dinner when she begged dad to 'do it for Dwayne'. I understood now.

"Earth to Rita!" Jess snapped her fingers in front of my face trying to 'bring me back to earth. '

"Am still here guys." I sigh.

"Was it horrible?" Delphine queried wondering why I fazed out.

"No, no it wasn't horrible. At all. In fact, it was actually really good. His mum is super nice and his brother and mine get along well, my self and Chase, we talked. But it was actually really nice." I explained.

"I knew you enjoy my company." Chase came out of no where alongside Tyler and Jayden but they were both arguing about the difference between shoe laces and laces on shoes, so I doubt they heard what Chase said or they'll be wearing matching scowls. I noticed that a lot. I especially, did not want Jayden to hear this conversation. Y'all should know why.

"Of course I do, why wouldn't I?, friends,  friends remember?" I smiled up at him.

"Sure." And we gave each other a slamming high five.

"What's up quad squad?" Tyler piped up.

"I think its quad family dude." Jayden countered Tyler.

"Nah, quad squad rhymes better and you cannot think well, that's why you 'think' that shoe laces are different from laces on shoes." Tyler rolled his eyes.

"There is a difference dude! A dress lace cannot be for shoes." Jayden argued very seriously.

Yup. Its official, these two are idiots.

"Guys, that's enough. What is this quad family you're referring to?" David finally, I mean finally speaks up. He had been quiet since morning.

"You guys. Since we are the terrible three, you are the quad family. One two three four. Simple." Chase pointed at each one of us as he counter and he shrugged.

Jess just laughed it off. And since it wasn't funny, we all looked at her like 'girl, are you okay?'

"So are you guys free on tonight? I wanted the terrible three and the quad squad to hang out at the movies." Tyler asked looking at all of us, waiting expectantly for our reply.

"Um, I won't be available tonight." I said looking at my food.

"Yeah, me too, I have a place I really need to be." Jayden replied rubbing the back of his neck with his palm, also looking down.

"That's okay, we'd just shift it to Saturday then." Tyler shrugged not noticing anything.

"Perfect, splendid!" Jayden exclaimed.

"See y'all later, especially you, friend." Chase waved us good bye and headed to their table along with the guys.

We didn't sit with them today. We didn't need any trouble at all.
