"Woah, even I had a better first kiss." Jess commented as she painted her second toe nail.
"I know right? Silly me. Thinking my first kiss would be on my wedding day." I replied bringing my nails close to my lips and blowing air on it lightly.
We were having a girls night at my place. Jess and I only.
"Yeah Rita, have you seen that joker and Harlequin video? Its been a month now but its still number one on the trending section of YouTube." Jessica thankfully changed the subject and brought out her phone to show me the video.
It never got old. Seeing myself in that costume dancing around and eventually running away from the cops never got old.
I had not even told Jess that I was the girl in the Harlequin costume. She would totally flip.
"I totally love her hair and make up!!! Who is this girl?" Jess squealed.
"Yeah about that I have to tell you something." I rubbed my left elbow with my right hand.
I brought out my phone and showed her a selfie Chase and I took that day before and after we wore our costumes.
"This doesn't prove anything Rita. Its probably photo shopped. Besides, you can never go all out. Did you see the way Harlequin danced? Did you see the hair and makeup?? There is no way that you're that girl. Also, no Christian does that in public." She folded her arms and looked at me from head to toe.
"I know. It was just a spur of the moment thing. I'm not proud to be the famous anonymous Harlequin. Hey! Famous and anonymous totally rhyme!!" I replied, earning a massive eye roll from Jess.
"No worries. You don't have to claim to be this girl." Jess gestured to her phone and then made her way to my bed.
For some reason, I wanted to prove that I was indeed harlequin and I could go all out too. That I wasn't just some pretty faced nerdy Christian.
"You don't believe me? Okay what do you have to say about this?"
I entered my closet, looked for and brought out the costumes that I wore that day. Unfortunately, there was no hair colour to back up my point.
Her wide eyes told me she was very shocked and her toothy grin told me she was extremely amused.
"Okay, I did not see that coming." She started laughing. "Whatever girl. So are you ready for math exams?"
"Sure. I've read and read, my brains practically own math now considering the fact that I dream about simultaneous equations and circle theorems."
We both laughed at the comment.
"That sounds really weird coming from you. You're like the only girl that assumes math was created and specifically designed to humiliate, confuse and frustrate you." Jess looked at me in disbelief.
"Yup. I was that girl. Keyword being was. Shane helped me a lot. He made math fun. I never thought math would ever be fun. I mean what fun does a jumble of numbers have to offer but then he just had to allow the stupid teenage boy hormones to ruin our entire friendship." I looked away from Jess and fixed my attention to the upturned math text book in front of me.
"Rita?"
"Yeah?"
I looked back at her.
"I think you should talk to Shane. You can't just act like it didn't happen. Face it. It did happen. I mean you can't blame Shane for thinking you liked him back. You guys spent five days every week together in and out of school. You have movie night every Friday. You talk to him, laugh and play with him. Maybe he got the wrong signal." She shrugged, trying to sound reasonable.
